6 WDS Events 2017 Annual Meeting Events (during the AAD Annual Meeting) 5 TH Annual Legacy Celebration Friday, March 3, :30pm-11:00pm Orlando, Florida The WDS Legacy Celebration was created to celebrate the success and accomplishments of WDS while raising funds to secure our future. 100% of the proceeds from the Legacy Celebration are donated to the Legacy Fund, which was developed to provide long-term financial integrity to the WDS and its mission. This charitable event is truly unique in that each year the WDS honors one of our members who has been an advocate of WDS and a leader to the society and to dermatology. The WDS Legacy Celebration has honored the following members: Inaugural WDS Legacy Celebration Dr. Wilma F. 8 WDS Events Media Day Media Day proudly features dermatologist offering seasoned experts partnered with up-and-coming physicians, serving up a perfect combination that captures the mentoring spirit of the Women s Dermatologic Society. Media Day is composed of WDS members that are responsible for a particular topic related to the field of dermatology. The event is a weekend long conference that focuses on leadership development, effective communication, teambuilding, networking, and other topics of interest for the personal development of our WDS members. 9 Community Outreach Programs Play Safe in the Sun WDS promotes Sun Safety through Play Safe in the Sun, a broad-based national campaign. Through a wide range of outreaches nationwide, Play Safe in the Sun offers free skin cancer screenings, educational materials and literature, and complimentary samples of sunscreen. Each outreach is led by local WDS dermatologists, and the campaign is designed to help spread awareness of skin cancer prevention and proper skin health. Since the initiative began in 2004, 3 additional community outreach programs have been established: Coast-2-Coast, Dove Movement for Self-Esteem, and TOPS (time out, protect your skin) Program. Coast-2-Coast This member-driven program extends past the summer months to provide tools for local sun safety and skin cancer prevention activities. Through this initiative, members are encouraged and equipped to create their own educational outreach event in their offices and/or communities throughout the year! TOPS Program With the goal of educating parents and children about sun safety both inside the classroom and outside, the TOPS Program was created and is making a real difference to raise awareness about skin cancer and sun protection one school at a time. Through this program, WDS educates teachers, students, parents, and all school faculty on ways to improve sun-safe behavior and also provides a shade structure for each school s playground. Regional Groups By creating WDS Regional Groups, the hope is to help facilitate local gatherings where networking, service, and educational projects can be planned and carried out more expeditiously, including projects and events that can be held concurrently in different cities with national organizational help. These groups will also be a channel for communication about the great things that are happening throughout the Women s Dermatologic Society. 10 Award & Grant Programs Academic Research Award The WDS Academic Research Awards Program provides funding for residents and early-career dermatologists performing basic science or clinical research relevant to the field of dermatology. Awards in the amount of up to $10,000 each are awarded on a competitive basis. These awards are intended to help the recipient further his or her academic career, and may serve as a basis for obtaining further funding. First grant given out in: 2007 Additional Sponsorship Benefits: Invitation for 1 to the presentation of Award Logo on Award or Certificate Recognition as a Sponsor when Award is Presented Career & Community Advancement Award The WDS Career and Community Advancement Award encourages projects and initiatives focusing on community service, career enhancement, and advancement of the specialty of dermatology. Qualified projects may cover a wide range of member needs and interests. These awards are provided to international dermatologists who demonstrate financial need. First grant given out in: 2001 Additional Sponsorship Benefits: Invitation for 1 to the presentation of Award Logo on Award or Certificate Recognition as a Sponsor when Award is Presented Mentorship/Preceptorship Awards The WDS Mentorship Awards Program promotes the concept of mentorship within the WDS by establishing long-term relationships between mentors and the mentee. The program helps develop leadership potential in candidates who have shown early promise through exceptional activities. Applicants are dermatology residents or junior faculty with less than five years of experience. First grant given out in: 2001 The WDS Preceptorship awards allow WDS members to experience a hands-on learning experience. We partner with you and arrange for the members to visit the appropriate area within your company to create a scientific learning and exchange of information for them. 11 Other Sponsorship Opportunities International Journal of Women s Dermatology The International Journal of Women s Dermatology (IJWD) publishes articles pertaining to dermatologic medical, surgical and cosmetic issues faced by female patients and their children. We are interested in original research articles, review articles, unusual case reports, new treatments, clinical trials, education, mentorship and viewpoint articles. Very important articles will have accompanying editorials. Topics which our subsection editors look forward to welcoming include acneiform disorders, inflammatory skin conditions, infections, including sexually transmitted diseases, autoimmune conditions, blistering diseases, vitiligo, skin of colour, hair and nail disorders, skin cancers, pregnancy and childbirth, pediatric dermatology, vulvar/ genital disorders, psychodermatology, surgical issues, laser/ peel/cosmetic procedures, and dermatopathology. Articles dealing with ethical issues in dermatology and medical legal scenarios are also welcome. We aim for rapid peer review from the academic leadership of the WDS as well as experts throughout the world. We will have open access of the accepted peer-reviewed articles even before the final proofs are compiled, allowing the work to be available as soon as possible. We cater to an audience of dermatologists, scientists, educational experts, family practitioners, pediatricians, gynaecologists and obstetricians, plastic surgeons, rheumatologists, internists, family physicians and pharmacologists. Young Physicians The WDS Young Physicians Committee offers complimentary tickets for several WDS events throughout the year to new and upcoming dermatologists. This provides a great opportunity to these young physicians to see everything WDS has to offer. Webinar Series The Young Physicians Committee put their first webinar series together in It featured speakers/dermatologists of different backgrounds and expertise. These short, informative videos became available in the summer of 2016, and we couldn t wait to share their knowledge with all of our members and those interested in our fantastic field of dermatology. Website The WDS Website has more than 1.5 million views per month. The website was currently updated to a platform which contains a CMS (content management system) which will allow for more modern features (videos and pictures) and to increase our social media presence!
