1 The Hills Mental Health Interagency Meeting Date: Venue: Thursday 4 th September, 9:30am-11:30am Hills Council Chambers, Norwest Chaired by: Kerrie Sheaves Minutes: Rebecca Deep 0. Welcome from chair and apologies: Kerrie Sheaves opened the meeting and handed out contact list to attendees. Attendees were asked to update any information on the list if required. Apologies were received from; David Hong The Delta Clinic Eileen Maila BaptistCare Cumberland Prospect Commonwealth Respite & Carelink Centre (Note: Due to funding cuts to Carelink in June 2014 and changes they have advised they are unable to promote or attend meetings at this stage.) Introductions around the room All attendees introduced themselves, their role and a brief overview of their organisation. 2. Updates/actions arising from previous meeting Received suggestions from attendees at the last meeting around future discussion topics/presentations that would add value for members. Will ensure that everyone is aware of the topic prior to the meeting.

2 ACTION: All attendees to send through their suggestions on discussion/presentation topics 3. What one-on-one networking has been done this month? Networking occurred at the recent Community Forum held by The Hills Shire Council on Friday 29 th September. All agreed that the forum was beneficial. Networking is beneficial as it allows us to take a no wrong door approach for our potential clients, meaning that if we are unable to assist them we should be able to refer them to a service who can. Kerrie is creating the service matrix for the website to assist in achieving this aim. ACTION: All services to complete matrix and return to Kerrie. (Thanks goes out to services who have already completed this) 3. Housekeeping a. Subcommittee Updates Mental Health Month The Hills Clinic sponsored the artist of the giant inflatable rabbits that were present at the Vivid Festival. These will be present at upcoming events as part of a campaign Let s Rabbit on about Mental Health that aims to de-stigmatise mental health, create positive discussion and educate the community on where and how to access help if required. The following events have been organised by the Mental Health Month Committee: Orange Blossom Festival on Saturday 13 th September: Rabbits will be present along with an information stall Rouse Hill Town Centre from 16 th 19 th October: Rabbits will present along with information stall Community Table in Castle Towers from 2 nd 5 th October: For the purpose of information and referral An events calendar has also been put together and includes all events sent through by local services. This will be promoted at the events and also on the HMHI website. ACTION: Those wishing to volunteer at the community table please contact Taryn Soderman on or taryn.soderman@2realise.org.au

If you would like to join the Steering Committee please join us on: Monday 15 th September am 11:30am Thompson Hall, Balcombe Heights Estate 92 Seven Hills Road Baulkham Hills Young Healthy Minds is a Youth Mental Health Forum that aims to de-stigmatise mental health and empower young people to make a positive change within their school community. It uses interactive activities and energises to engage young people and give them the courage and motivation to make a difference. b. Survey Project update Kerrie provided the group with an overview/update on the survey project. She has asked for assistance from UWS and UTS to craft a survey intended for the general population that will assist us to understand what mental health looks like in the Hills area. There is currently no data that specific only to this LGA. ACTION: Each HMHI member needs to consider the following question: what do we want to know about people in the Hills area that is relevant to your work/service? This will help the drafting of the questions to ensure that we capture the information that we need to know. c. New Program Update Taryn Soderman, 2realise Taryn advised the group of the upcoming launch of the Timebanking program in the Hills. Timebanking is an online community program which facilitates the voluntary exchange of services between members. It is as simple as give an hour, receive an hour in return. Last year, the Timebanking initiative was piloted in The Hunter Valley region and it has grown to become the largest Timebanking community in the world.

4 It is now being introduced into communities across NSW in conjunction with the Department of Communities as a platform to promote volunteering and build stronger, more connected communities. 2realise would like to extend an invitation to all community members, organisations and businesses to attend the launch of Timebanking in The Hills on: Friday 19 th September 10am 11:30 Thompson Hall, Balcombe Heights Estate 92 Seven Hills Rd, Baulkham Hills RSVP to: Natalie.paoli@2realise.org.au or d. Roles for the interagency ACTION: (carried over) a roster will be made up for the next meeting which will outline specific roles for members to ensure that the workload is shared. e. Membership (carried over) Discussion was held around what should constitute membership and whether a cost should be involved. This is to ensure that commitment is received from those that will have access to resources developed by the interagency. This will be a focus after mental health month ACTION (carried over): Kerrie will put together a brief outlining how membership will be defined, the cost associated with this and what needs to be completed in order to establish a bank account. At the next meeting it can be decided as to who will be the bank account signatories. 4. General Business Kerrie advised the group that there will be a preventative mental health fundraising and awareness event being held on Sunday 14 th September at The Ponds Community. It s a Family Cycling event hosted by Rotary Rouse Hill and MIA Bring A Mate. (Event Flyer is attached to the minutes) Mental Health Service providers are welcome to include a flyer for their services in the 300 show bags that will be given out at the event, deadline for sending through your material to Kerrie is 10 th September. Call her if you want to include something. On Kerrie advised that Beyond Blue has great resources for mental health events but make sure that you get in early
