I can t imagine what it was like Monday afternoon after the big deluge that Nowra and surrounds sustained. So once again we have missed out on a competition day. That now only leaves 4 competitions for Amanda, our very able secretary, now has Global Entries on Line up and running for our events. Sandi Simons Clinic We did eventually get enough riders to attend this clinic, and what a great time the Ladies had. So good if fact all participants have requested another clinic with Sandi which we booked there and then. Next clinic with Sandi will be the 17/18th December. Thank God for Maxine s place as the rain never let up either day. I would urge all riders getting back in the saddle to attend this clinic, so much valuable information on tap and personal attention was the hallmark of Sandi s clinic. No problem went unattended to. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and riders soon worked out that they weren t the only one with a problem, which I might add, were very soon rectified. By 4pm Sunday there were some very happy and more confident riders working beautifully in the arena on happy and relaxed horses. Please read the testimonials in this newsletter.

2 P A G E 2 SDC Riders at Eurobodalla Comp. Grounds at Moruya 13th March was the scheduled day for the comp at Moruya. Your intrepid reporter travelled down to strap for a friend and report on our members results. The day was extremely hot, the last hurrah from summer. The grounds looked lovely and the arenas rode well by all reports. Rob Targa, Barb Vial Hetty Munda & Maggie Brennan were the Judges for the day. Had a wonderful day there, thanks to all the committee at Moruya. Have included the results in this newsletter. Well done to all SDC members. Clean out the Shed and make a few dollars The Sydney CDI Wednesday 27 April To Saturday 30 April Car Boot Sale - 30 July The committee have been hard at work coming up with ideas for fund raising to help pay for improvements required for the sand arena. Just one of the ideas that has had the green light is that we host a Car Boot Sale. This will be held at the common and will be Would like to thank Sue King very much for donating the use of the bus to the CDI. This will help our open to the community. Which means that anyone may bring their stuff to sell, doesn t have to be horse related gear. Attendees buy a spot on the common and sell their goods and whatever they make goes into their pockets. SDC will have a stall and members may donate CDI Trip 30th April bottom line immensely as we are now 2 comps down this year. Financially this equates to about $8000 that the club will not receive in entry fees this year. goods to sell, or may sell their goods with 10% of their profit going to the Club. 3 Feed Back from Sandi Simons Clinic P A G E 3 Rider 1. I was really glad that I made the last minute decision to attend the Sandi Simons Clinic. I was a bit unsure of what to expect as it was a confidence clinic. How was I going to handle more than just me being a basket case!. But, I felt that for 48 hours an experienced horsewoman took a group of women under her wing and mentored us. She challenged us constantly and not just about riding skills. We were vulnerable with each other, our lives, who we were, what we wanted in life and how what happens emotionally in the saddle is symptomatic of what is going on in our lives. Sandi reinforced that I was someone with something to say that was worth listening to, that it was okay to stand up for myself, to have boundaries. During the two days we were taken through a systematic foundation of groundwork which fed directly into ridden skills. Other areas of horse management were also discussed such as floating, feeding and horse behavior. Sandi was very student directed, we could say what about.? at any time, she made herself completely available to us. I am really looking forward to her next clinic.. Rider 2. Great weekend, pouring rain and still riding our horses. Sandi and her helpers made it very easy to learn. I made new discoveries about myself and my horse and how to develop a better and happier partnership. Most significant for me was sharing what our horses and riding means for women like myself. What makes us all persist with dogged determination? While what our experience with our horse is very individual we found that we had a lot in common. Sandi showed us how the confidence or lack of confidence that we have with our horse can filter into other areas of our life. By the end of the weekend I am sure we were all walking a little taller. I drove home feeling slightly weary, equipped with some very practical skills and a few extra laughter lines. Rider 3. Sandi s clinics aren t just for those who may have confidence issues, however if you do, you can rest assured you will be surrounded by supportive and empathetic people. During the clinic Sandi teaches tools that give the rider more horse control both on the ground and ridden. Whilst they are based on the John Lyon s methods, she has broken them down to keep it simple and easy to learn. Regardless of which discipline you have chosen for you and your horse, I am sure you will walk away with tools that will keep you safe, improve your confidence and are easy enough to replicate at home. 4 EADRA Agreement Signed and how it will affect all horse owners. Please read this. On Thursday, 3 March 2011, at Parliament House, representatives of four national organisations -Australian Racing Board, Harness Racing Australia, Australian Horse Industry Council and Equestrian Australia - signed the Emergency Animal Disease Response Agreement (EADRA) on behalf of the Australian horse-owning community. This was a significant achievement, after considerable effort from many organisations and individuals over a long time, particularly the past 18 months. The agreement will provide the various sectors of the horse industry with a similar level of protection as enjoyed by other major livestock industries, in the event of a disease emergency. For all horse owners, it provides the reassurance that the Commonwealth will provide immediate funding to enable rapid, decisive action to be taken for a future emergency disease outbreak. It has been agreed that industry s share of a response will be repaid via a levy on manufactured feeds and worm treatments. Such a levy will only be triggered after a disease response is required; until that happens, no money will be collected. On behalf of Animal Health Australia, I would like to express our appreciation for your individual and collective efforts in reaching this historic agreement which should be a source of pride and satisfaction for you said Mike Bond, Chief Execu- tive Officer of Animal Health Australia. At a personal level, I have certainly valued your support and assistance. There is still work to be done, in drafting the necessary legislation and consulting with the feed and wormer manufacturers to address their concerns. During the next 6-12 months, we might need the horse community s further help in this area. This agreement represents an important milestone for all sectors of the Australian horse -owning community, in demonstrating the value of collaborative action. I hope that it can be the forerunner of further cooperative initiatives that can benefit everyone.
