July has come and gone and NCHI events went on as usual. But something alarming that I've observed is that when 2-8 riders come out and the same handful of members are there to prepare the arena, take entries, and cook in the snack shack, I wonder how long our club can exist with so little participation? Those of you who volunteer know who you are and your efforts are greatly appreciated. You are also the same people who attend our meetings and volunteered to be officers, and committee chairs of our club. You are the glue that keeps this club together! Without you, there would not be a Nevada County Horsemen. 1

2 We've tried very hard to improve our grounds and clubhouse the past 2 years. But our volunteers are getting tired. There's just not enough of us! Unfortunately we haven't seen any growth in volunteers and participants at our club meetings. Additionally, no one has expressed an interest in leading our club next year. This is my second year as President and as per the By-Laws, I can't run again. I strongly urge you all to think about your involvement in our club, and about volunteering as an officer next year, attending our meetings, and volunteering at our events. Otherwise, where will NCHI be next year? NOTE: August Regular Club Meeting has been changed to Friday August 19, because of the Nevada County Fair. However, our board meeting will stay the same, August 8. All are welcome to attend these meetings. When you have stalls to clean it feels like 500 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I came home from camping on June 28 th, I took a shower and when I got out I heard about the fire in Foresthill, concerned as my best friend Lori and her husband Mark live there but they were camping with me and not coming home until Thursday, I thought of Lori s horse Fire. He was my concern as I was not able to reach them by cell phone. I don t have a trailer so I called members to see if I could get help. I had to save Fire for Lori,(we have been best friends since we were 8 years old, now in our 50 s) Well I want to take the time to thank everyone that helped me find help. A big Thank you to Tom Stevenson and Jane De Zell they hooked up their trailer gave me a ride to Foresthill and I was able to save Fire from the fire. When Lori and Mark got home I have to say she could not Thank us enough. On Friday July 15 th Lori and her husband took us out for dinner and we all had a great time. New friends were made over such a nice gesture and being in need of help.
