1 My fellow Fife Lions, Newsletter Lisa Ikeda Newsletter It s that time of year again that we elect new officers for our club and pay our $65.00 club membership dues. Please bring your cash or check to an upcoming meeting. Elections for next year s Club Officers - Board of Directors will be held on March 6 th. Nominations from the floor were held February 20 th. Please let us know if you are interested in any of the positions before Tuesdays election so we can vote. Our Lion year runs July 1 st through June 31 st annually and new officers/board will take over July 1 st. We still need folks to sign up to bring dinner on May 1 st, May 15 th, June 5 th and June 19 th. If anyone is available to bring dinner on any of those dates, please let us know. * See: page 2 for Sign-up dates. This years our Special Needs Fishing Derby at Auburn Mill Pond Park will be held May 12 th, 9am to 1pm and cleanup efforts will take place on Parks Appreciation Day April 21 st 9am to Noon. I m excited about being elected as our next Zone C3 Chair, the position starts July 1 st I m looking forward to the Zone Chair Team Training Vancouver, BC. this May. I enjoyed our Districts Leadership Training on February 17 th and this weekends Lions Learning Forum in Vancouver, WA. Hosted by District G. Our annual Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday, March 31 st at Dacca Park. Join us for breakfast at the Poodledog at 7:00am. Our Leos will be on hand to help, hopefully the T-shirts for Surprise Lake Middle School will be ready by then. T-shirts for Columbia High School were presented at our last meeting. See page 3 for the photo. This years MD19C District Convention is just around the corner. Please sign up to attend on page 6. The last two conventions I ve attended have been enjoyable and worth the time and money. This years event will be in Bremerton and runs Friday and Saturday, April 27 th and 28 th most people just attend Saturday, the 28th. Thank you for being a Fife Lion and for all you do. In order for us to keep the Fife Lions Club going, be active in the community and take care of important Lions business, we need members to step up and take an active role and we also need help recruiting new members. 3

Auburn Mill Pond Park 600 Oravetz Road, Auburn, WA Open to all children with special needs, their siblings and families. Children will special needs will first opportunity to fish. May 12 th, 9:00 am to 1:00pm Free event for children with special needs. All fish must be taken home, no catch and release. Includes a T-shirt, Certificate of Participation and a keepsake photo. 4

7 14th Annual Special Needs Youth Fishing Derby sponsored by The Lions of District 19C, Zone C-3 Auburn Noon, Bonney Lake, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Fife, Kent, Maple Valley Centennial, Puyallup, Puyallup Valley, Sumner The Lions of Zone C-3 cordially invite pre-school and school age special needs youth to the 14th annual Special Needs Youth Fishing Derby. Bring your fishing rod, some bait and a smile and be ready for great fun. Siblings and friends welcome. Special needs youth will have the first opportunity to fish. A limited quantity of fishing poles will be on hand to borrow. The State of Washington stocks the pond with over 1,000 legal, healthy, hungry fish! Lions Club members will clean and package your prize fish for you. No adult fishing. Adult assistance to aid a child fishing is okay. The limit is 5 fish per individual child. The Sumner Lions will provide food and beverage at a nominal cost. This will be a great event and we look forward to seeing you and your family. 8 SIGN-UP LIONS DISTRICT 19C, ZONE C-3 14 th ANNUAL FREE SPECIAL NEEDS YOUTH FISHING DERBY SATURDAY,, :00 am 1:00 pm Mill Pond Park 600 Oravetz Road Auburn, Washington ALL PARTICIPATING CHILDREN MUST BE PRE-SCHOOL TO SCHOOL AGE YOUTHS ACCOMPANIED AND SUPERVISED BY A RESPONSIBLE ADULT. THE PRIMARY PARTICIPANT MUST BE A SPECIAL NEEDS YOUTH. SIBLINGS AND FRIENDS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND. Bring your own fishing rod, bait and equipment. No fishing license required. No boats will be allowed on the pond. Free Expert Fishing Lessons available. Just ask a volunteer for help. A limited amount of bait, poles and fishing gear will be available for use. Rods must be returned by 1 pm. Mill Pond Park is a youth only fishing pond. Adult fishing is not permitted. Adults may assist a child who is actually fishing. Limit 5 fish per individual child. Please use one stringer for child s catch, so they may be photographed holding their fish. Stringers are available. There is no catch and release. All fish caught are to be kept or donated. While this is a free event, there will be low cost concessions available for purchase.
