5 Wanted: Adult Volunteers We are thankful for all of our Waushara County 4-H adult volunteers. We are always looking for talented people to be project resource leaders, chaperones for trips, and summer camp staff. Enrollment forms for new volunteers are available from the UW-Extension office and club organizational leaders. All first year adult leaders are required to attend a Volunteer Orientation session, complete an online mandated reporter training, sign a volunteer behavior agreement form and authorize a confidential background check. The next Volunteer Orientation session will be held during the Leader Learn in on November 12 from 9 to 11 am. Leader Learn-In Each year one or more volunteer leaders from each club and association must participate in an Annual Volunteer Leader Training. This year s session will be offered at the Leader Learn-In on November 12th from 9-11 am. This year s topic is Youth Opportunities. In addition to this topic there will be individual officer sessions led by experienced club officers! Adults will be updated on 4-H policies and best practices. New 4 -H Volunteers are invited to complete their 4-H Volunteer in Preparation Training. Club Activity Insurance Information The Waushara County 4-H Leaders Association takes out annual accident insurance which covers members and leaders that are participating in scheduled 4-H meetings and activities with volunteer adult leaders present. It also covers when the members and leaders are in transit to and from such activities. Activities which are not included in this are downhill skiing, tobogganing, tubing, and sledding. Periodically these have been club activities. If clubs wish to include these activities they can take out activity insurance from the same insurance company for a minimal fee per person. Their website is h-insurance#fourh. If you have a higher risk event where additional families are participating you should take out this coverage in addition to the annual accident insurance as these events are not covered under the annual insurance. Volunteer Background Checks Repeated Wisconsin 4-H Youth Development s policies require a background check to be conducted every four (4) years for 4-H volunteers. The UW-Extension office will continue conducting those checks for all re-enrolling volunteers in their 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, 20th, etc year of enrollment. You will receive two s in regards to the process and have a week to respond to the request. All information is entered into a secured server. Thank you to our Volunteers! Please remember to thank your club and project leaders for sharing their time and talents with you. There are many behind the scenes things our 4-H volunteers do to make 4-H clubs fun, a place to do new things and a group that gives back to the community. When they ask for help, please consider how you can help with some of your clubs activities and projects. 5

7 Youth Fair Board Representatives Sought The Fair Board is seeking one additional non-voting youth representative to join their Board. Youth representatives must be 16 years old and will serve a two year term. Representatives are expected to readily voice your thoughts and be involved as more than an exhibitor. It is the intent the youth attend the meeting without a parent. To be considered for the open position this year, please submit a letter indicating your interest to the UW-Extension Office by November 27. What s an ME Form!? ME stands for Member Evaluation. These forms must be completed for all trip and award applications. All trip and award applicants are also required to complete an interview. For members who have never participated in an interview before, this can be intimidating. And those ME forms...confusing, right? We don t want this to be a negative experience for you and we want you to know we are here to help! Come to the ME Workshop on November 12th at 11 a.m. (after Leader Learn-In) for valuable tips and tricks for completing an award winning ME and mastering the interview! This workshop is open to all members interested in applying for the trips or awards outlined earlier in this edition of the Clover Clipper you don t need to attend the Leader Learn In to participate in this. Welcoming New Families Making new families in your 4-H club feel welcome will help your club be more successful. Here are some ideas you can implement to make sure new families feel welcome that Linda Pomplun is sharing after participating in a program on the Heart of Belonging. Make a first impression positived. Speak to each person as they arrive saying hi wit a smile, If you know their names call them by it Hi Jon. Make sure you acknowledge something positive about each person. Making all feel welcomed. Making sure the youth feels comfortable and safe by using activities and breaking the ice between all. Use praises like nice job or way to go will help build each person to feel good about themselves. There are basic needs for youth to feel safe, to belong, having self worth, to gain independence, to have quality relationships with peers. Having feelings of pride and to expand their skills and knowledge. Having them know that success is possible for each of them. We as adults can help in the development of the youth in guiding, coaching, listening to each Youth. Tell them about New Family Nights at the Courthouse in January and July. Other families have said they are very helpful. Some clubs have held their own new family nights. 7
