1 January 2016 C Gate After a long wait, our new premises has opened again and we have called it C Gate! This has various meanings for us, mostly because the C stands for Carers, but also because we are based in the Seagate. C Gate will provide a welcome space for carers and disabled people to meet staff and each other, attend groups and also for people to drop in off the street, to access support and information. We are also promoting C Gate to businesses who are looking for modern, quality and low cost meeting spaces, in a city centre location. Our aim is for C Gate to grow into a busy, thriving space that people will use for a variety of uses and of course will be speaking to everyone who uses our services to continually develop this space. For more information about C Gate, contact Jackie on
2 National Pilot for new qualification We are very excited to announce and national pilot for new qualification. There will be 12 pilots in Scotland and Dundee Carers Centre will be one of them. This is a new type of qualification for adults. This allows people to gain accreditation and qualification for learning and taking part in activities that take place in their everyday life. This qualification gives people that first step back into learning. Look out in the next edition of Dundee Carers News for more information on this pilot. The awards are support by the Newbattle Abbey College. Carers Health Checks In December 2015 The Keep Well Health Team provided health checks to minority ethnic carers. This involved checking their blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, height, weight and BMI. Further dates for health checks are on: Friday 22nd January, Friday 26th February, Friday 25th March, Friday 22nd April, Friday 27th May, Friday 24th June, Friday 22nd July Appointments available at 10am, 11am and 12pm in the C Gate. If you would like to book a slot please call the office on and speak to Jackie.
3 Short Breaks Service Dundee Carers Centre is developing a brand new service called the short breaks service, this service is designed to give carers the break that they so desperately need, this could include time out for yourself to pursue a hobby, visit friends or just recharge your batteries, perhaps you would prefer some pampering? if so we have a range of therapeutic providers for you to choose your treatment, or perhaps you have your own favourite. Maybe a short break away is for you. Whatever you choose we could help you design a break that is unique to you. If this is you then please feel free to visit the centre and speak to one of the short breaks team, alternatively you can contact us in the following ways Visit our website If you have any questions please contact the Short Breaks Team on Meet the short breaks team: From left Ian Boyle, Short Breaks Co-ordinator Lisa Stevens, Short Breaks Broker Leslie Robertson Short Breaks Assistant Maria Rehman, Short Breaks Broker (fluent in Urdu) Christine Hope, Short Breaks Broker Leanne Briggs, Short Breaks Assistant Kim Dickson, Marketing Officer
