1 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE July 2016 It s hard to believe we are halfway through I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer and taking time to enjoy the beautiful weather. Each and every day I see and hear of new examples where our team has gone above and beyond for our patients. As a hospital, we continue to focus on population health, team member engagement, the patient experience and developing new ways to provide access to high quality patient care. Our patient experience data continues to reflect the great work you all do. Thank you for your commitment to creating a world where our patients and those who care for them are free from harm. I look forward to seeing many of you at our United Memorial Family Picnic on July 30 th and wish you all a very happy and safe month. Daniel P. Ireland President, United Memorial Medical Center QUESTIONS FOR SENIOR LEADERS Q: Have changes been made to the dress code policy? A: Yes, pantyhose or socks are no longer required. Q: Is there any way that we can have more fruit in the lunch room? More platters like the ones with tuna and salad. A. This is a great recommendation. We will explore options with our Food Service Director. Q. We have an attractive hospital now with great landscaping. I wonder how people feel when entering Summit Street to our parking lots as they dodge potholes and bumps. Any plans for paving this road to match the class of the buildings? A. There will be a few additional repairs in 2016 and as we are in the capital budget process for 2017, paving and lot repairs will be part of the requests for next year as well. There are a number of areas that need attention and will be on the priority list for improvement. Thank you for the suggestion and we will continue to pursue improving our lots and walking areas. ZERO HARM On August 15 th United Memorial will launch the SafetyZone Portal; an electronic incident reporting system. This new online reporting tool will provide instant event notification, allow us to track trends, reduce the use of paper and help raise awareness of potential safety issues and prevent harm. Additional information and training dates will be released soon.

2 FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE For the first five months of 2016, United Memorial realized a net surplus from operations of $1,411,000. This surplus exceeded budget by $124,000 despite utilization being down from budget for the first five months. During this period, revenue was lower than budgeted which also had a negative impact on our surplus. The decline in revenue was primarily due to decreases in admissions, outpatient surgeries and physician practice office visits. This decline in revenue; however, was entirely offset by reductions in expenses which came in below budget as well. RochesterRegional.org On June 29 th, we launched a new website! It was two years in the making since Rochester Regional Health made its debut in Our new website reflects our integrated system and outstanding staff. Our legacy URL ummc.org now points to the new RochesterRegional.org website. Landing pages have been created for each of the five hospitals with quick links to the most-accessed content, including billing & insurance, directions, contact information and more. Be sure to take a moment to check it out. Any questions or concerns, please contact Stacey, PR Advisor at x5439. We ask that you use RochesterRegional.org moving forward. As a new health system, we are working to build and establish our brand. The more we use the new domain, the better our traffic to the website, search engine results and rankings. EMPLOYEE FORUMS In an effort to keep our team members up to date on current activities and events, Dan Ireland will be hosting team forums the first two weeks of August. All are encouraged to attend these forums for valuable information about Rochester Regional and United Memorial. 4 KUDOS Every day our team at United Memorial goes above and beyond. Thank you for all you do to make the patient, family and co-worker experience exceptional. Resident Dr. Arbuckle recognized I was rather anxious and asked if I believed in prayer; I do, and he took the time to pray with me. This was a much needed comfort and I appreciated him doing so. I have never had a Doctor offer to pray with me and I loved it. ~ patient rounding comment Thank you so much to the two ladies that helped me in the ER/Fast Track (7/13) and the three nurses in the OR. I ended up having to get stitches and I have a phobia of hospitals...they helped me the calm down and get my mind off of things. They treated me as if I was their own daughter and it made me feel so safe. I can't thank you enough for the "goody bag" and for your kind words.
