Every Barardo s project is differet but each believes that every child ad youg perso deserves the best start i life, o matter who they are, what they have doe or what they have bee through. We believe that the lives of all childre should be free from poverty, abuse ad discrimiatio. We do this because we believe that every child deserves the chace to trasform their lives ad fulfil their potetial. 10

By the time she was just four years old she was ot just takig care of herself, but also her baby sister, Haah. Lookig after a two-year-old is hard work for most adults. Imagie what it is like for a four-year-old child. The oe day her dad was imprisoed for drug related offeces. This tured out to be the best thig that ever happeed to Katie. Away from her parter s ifluece, Katie s mum, Susa, was able to come off drugs, at least for log eough to realise that this was o life for her or the girls. Desperate to do the right thig for her childre, she cotacted a health worker who referred them to Akwaaba oe of Barardo s projects based i Deptford, south east Lodo. Katie ow has somewhere safe to go eve if just for a few hours a day. But she did have massive problems whe she first came to the Akwaaba Project. A timid, frail figure, she fliched every time someoe brushed past her. It will take a lot of patiece ad care to rebuild her life. But she is makig progress. 11
