1 Message from Mary Lee Serving the Millponds of Delaware Lions Clubs International District 22-D March 2014 Volume 1, Issue 9 In this issue: Lion of Month 2 District Calendar 3 DG Schedule 3 FVDG Message 4 SVDG Message 4 Bowling 5 Tournament Club News 6 Roster Book 8 Changes DLF Breakfast 10 Golf Tournament 11 Leadership Inst. 12 Convention Info 16 Hello Lions, Lioness, Leos in 22 D! I truly thought we would be seeing some warmer weather, but as I write this we have SNOW on the ground. What a winter! We only had to reschedule one visitation due to the weather - which I consider a blessing! It has been wonderful visiting each club - still have 2 Lioness clubs to go. Membership wise, we are growing - but unfortunately we are losing some good Lions due to death. Keep recruiting new members for your clubs - so you end up on the plus side come June 30. For my "Lions information" this month I have included a new contest from International. It looks good - so read the information and implement it in your club! See page 2. The convention in Ocean City is shaping up to be an exciting event. President Palmer will be there - and will be sharing LCI programs with us during the seminar times. Leader Dog dinners are coming on March 24 and 25. Please bring your club donations - no matter how small - so we can again be a 100% district. Lions do like to have fun - and fun is the name of the game on March 15. I truly hope each of your clubs has representation at the Mid Winter Social. A big thank you to Lions B J and Janet for their hard work! Lion Jim Littleton has a great time scheduled for March 22 at the Milford Lanes - come bowl and enjoy the afternoon with Lions! Lion Ed Springer is recruiting and asking for ads for the WALK FOR SIGHT. April 27 in Rehoboth - noon registration (as they said when I was growing up - BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!). They are planning a feast to follow the walk - so you don't want to miss any of the fun! It has been fun recognizing Lions who work hard! And to see the look of surprise on their faces with the 'WHO ME" response! TO all Club Presidents - this is something you can do on your own for your special nights - the forms and folders are not expensive - I get them at Staples. When I was growing up we got our corn meal freshly ground and the flour for the MILLSBORO LIONS CLUB Chicken and Dumpling dinner came from the same place. How many others used the products from the old HEARNS MILL in Seaford? Sad to see the building empty. Let me know what is happening in your club this spring. Now that visitations are complete - I want to still 'come back' for fellowship and to help with your fund raisers if possible. Keep serving those in need in your community - keep the home fires going during this cold spell - and always remember: WE SERVE! 4 Page 4 March 2014 From Our Vice District Governors THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN On the TV show Survivor, tribe mates vote one person out of their tribe at the end of each episode. The first time the players visit Tribal Council, they light a torch, which represents life. As long as you have fire, you are still in the game. At each Tribal Council, one player is eliminated and their torch is extinguished. Does your club have members whose fire seems to have gone out? Are you forcing members out of your club? Well, now s the time to blow your whistle and take a good look at what your club is really like. First impressions always count! How someone perceives your club, will be whether they join or not. And if they join, whether they will stay and become an active member. Make sure your meetings are informative, show all members that you care about them, bond the club together with social activities, give thanks and praise when due, and most importantly involve all members. The problems uncovered will not only help retain members, but will help your club attract new members and become a more vital, valuable part of the community. If you want your club to survive you have got to keep the member s fire burning. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. --- Unknown Lion Cheryl L. Jones 1st Vice District Governor Cruise To Service Hello Fellow Lions, Brrrr, March has certainly come in like a Lion this year! I don t know about all of you, but I am tired of the snow and cold weather. We have finally finished the Lions Club visitations after many weather delays. Upcoming events you won t want to miss are Mid-Winter Social, Leader Dog, DE Lions Day, Bowling, and the DLF Walk. Hope to see you there. Don t forget to sign up for the MD22 Leadership Training at Wor-Wic College. This location will replace Emmitsburg this year. Lion Brenda and I attended District B Social this past weekend. On Friday afternoon and Saturday morning the FVDG and 2VDG had District Governor training. Saturday night was the social with a theme of Mardi-Gras. Yes, we went in costume! Oh, did I mention it was also my birthday FUN, FUN, FUN! As always we need to address the issue of membership. In order to keep our District in good standing we need to keep asking that important question, would you like to be a Lion? Thanks for letting me serve this great organization. Yours in Lionism, James R. Coverdale 2 nd Vice District Governor
