1 BOTCHED ABORTION REPORTS Following is a list of apparently botched abortions at abortion clinics. Unless otherwise noted (self admission = self admission to hospital), all required transportation to a hospital by ambulance. The events were witnessed and/or videotaped by persons present outside the clinics. In many cases, copies of the 911 phone calls by abortion staff were also obtained, giving a sketch of the patient s condition. The date given is the date of the occurrence, unless denoted by an r after the date, indicating it is the date the event was reported. XX indicates day unknown. 5 * Operation Rescue has documented 10 medical emergencies at this Bakersfield abortion clinic between this date and August, 2012, an average of about 1 every 4 months. NOTE: The LifeNews.com article of 4/26/13 entitled, 911 Calls: California Planned Parenthood Injures Three Women in Abortions, states: Operation Rescue has documented 22 medical emergencies occurring at abortion clinics nationwide since January 1, In the LifeNews.com article of 8/21/13 it states that since January, 2012, Operation Rescue had documented 32 medical emergencies at Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide. On March 15, 2017, it reported on LifeNews.com that in the 13 months between January 1, 2016 and March 3, 2017, the PP s Westside Health Center abortion clinic in Santa Cruz, CA has called ambulances to the facility 22 times. So the instances recorded above are just the tip of the iceberg. The data documented above indicates that of the 172 botched abortions requiring emergency medical treatment from 2011 through 2016, 72 or 41.9% occurred at Planned Parenthood clinics. The reader is reminded that these botched abortions are only those observed and recorded. Obviously not all abortion clinics have been observed during all hours they were open, and not all botched abortions requiring transportation to a hospital have been documented. A recent study of 54,911 abortions during obtained by Medi Cal beneficiaries in California found that 2.1% of the women required additional medical care within 6 weeks after the abortion. If this complication rate were applied to the 1,058,500 legal abortions reported by the Guttmacher Institute for 2011, it would yield 22,228 visits by women within 6 weeks of their abortion to deal with complications. So much for safe legal abortion. The authors note two shortcomings of their research. First, their sample included higher rates of Hispanics, lower rates of blacks, and presumably higher rates of low income women than the general population. Second, they used billing codes to identify complications, which often contain erroneous codes and using the codes we could not assess whether any of the complications led to deaths or detect complications not documented by billing codes thereby underestimating the complication rate. A special report by Operation Rescue found that from 2011 through May of 2015, records from the Ohio Department of Health reveal that at least 47 abortion related medical emergencies or complications took place at eight abortion facilities illustrating that the above report data for all states just scratched the surface of the problem. Abortion is not Reproductive Health Care, but rather anti reproductive health endangerment. The individual reproduced is killed, and his or her mother subjected to increased risks of physical, psychological and spiritual harm.
