1 Annual report The mission of the United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County is to improve lives in the areas of Education, Self Sufficiency & Health One person can change a life. Be the ONE. Support the Campaign. That was our call to action this last year and it was a success! Each year a lot of thought goes into the selection of a theme and you hope that it carries the spirit and mission of our United Way in to the community. This past year as we began the roll out of Be the ONE it was apparent that the call to action was accepted as volunteers and donors joined the LIVE UNITED movement right here in Mid & South Jefferson County. This past year we launched the Day of Action program for local business and industry volunteers. The program is simple in that a company or group contacts the United Way and request a Day of Action. We gather information about their general interest, time availability and get to work. Providing options of activities the United Way MSJC will take care of basic organization, scheduling and introductions for the day. Our goal is to create a meaningful experience for the volunteers while getting things done for the community. The first company to have a Day of Action was Texas Gas. The Employees of Texas Gas gave helping hands to the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club as they built the playground donated by Flint Hills. United Way MSJC is continuing the project with a focus on the basketball court. This is an example bringing the community together for the greater good. The other example of the call to action was in the campaign itself. The Annual Campaign is the lifeline for programs throughout the Mid & South Jefferson County area. United Way funding has increased in importance as grants have decreased on the regional, state and national levels for small programs. Funding from United Way allows a program/agency to focus on providing the services and not on raising funds, at least to some degree. Agencies forego usual fundraising during the United Way Campaign Season to help support our efforts throughout the community. This year the support of the programs combined with the hard work of Jody the Loaned Executive, United Way volunteers and staff brought us to our campaign goal. The United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County has gained a reputation in the region and state for thinking outside of the box (when needed) to create lasting impacts in our community. As we continue to move forward we invite you to join the LIVE UNITED Team and answer the call to action. We want everyone to be a part of the solution to the community problems that we all share. 2 More than six years ago the United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County began the transition to Community Impact. The transition started with little changes in the reporting information by those seeking funding. Three years later it is clear that the Community Impact has improved our effectiveness. We are better able to report success, identify underserved areas, address needs. Gone is the United Way of yesterday that solely focused on fundraising we are an active member in leading change and improving lives. We are now a stronger community partner and collaborator. We are looking at the needs of the community and what programs are meeting those needs. Each program must show outcome measurements demonstrating positive impacts and overall success. We are investing in lasting solutions not temporary fixes. Using the Community Needs Assessment, community surveys, and community conversations our volunteers negotiate through a fivestep process to determine funding decisions. After funding decisions are made the United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County is not finished, we continue active communication with the community & programs all year. That is how we ensure dollars invested with us are safe and providing services to those in need. This is all done with the three building blocks to a better life as our focus Education, Income and Health. We are committed to the safe investment of the donated dollar into programs that are actively changing lives and making lasting impacts in the community. 9 NEON is a one hour introduction to various programs and volunteer opportunities. Employees are the goodwill ambassadors from their companies to the community. With NEON ambassadors will become ready to make their own impact in the community and your company. The United Way understands the difficulty in finding, hiring and retaining a workforce. NEON can create community involvement in the workplace that sponsors a commitment to the community and employers. NEON helps to introduce new hires to the community involvement and impact. We are working to bring a sense of ownership and duty to the community by encouraging the fertilization of community roots through personal investment in the community. Each year tens of thousands of lives are touched and positively impacted because the support of our local industry and local volunteers. Together we are advancing the common good for all in Mid & South Jefferson County.
