2 The Dish The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis, a lifethreatening genetic disease that affects 30,000 children and adults in the United States and 70,000 people worldwide. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is primarily a lung disease caused by a defective gene that makes the body produce thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to lifethreatening lung infections. Ten million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene, and about 1,000 new cases of CF are diagnosed each year. There is still no cure. That is why we need your support today to help fund the research necessary to find a cure and provide hope to the thousands of patients struggling with CF. The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment, and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care. Through the CF Foundation s efforts and unique fundraising events like Bite, Chef s for a Cure, the life expectancy of a child with CF had doubled in the last 30 years, and research to find a cure is more promising than ever before. Corks and Kegs (formerly Lansing Wine) Corks and Kegs, formerly Lansing Wine Opener, is a tasting series to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Corks and Kegs will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Eagle Eye Golf Club in Bath from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. The night is a relaxed, yet lively, evening for 250 expected guests. From tasting novices to advanced enthusiasts, Corks and Kegs is a casual and fun evening for all experience levels! Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact, as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation s attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to an indoor Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time.
