1 Redlands & Southern Districts Equestrian Group Newsletter President Note Welcome to 2018! I hope everyone had an enjoyable break and is ready to get back into the swing of things starting on February 18. The competition will be a one ride only morning, as we still have very hot days, followed by our AGM and a quick General Meeting, with a BBQ, finishing up with our saddlery market. If you would like to nominate for any positions please fill out the form in the newsletter and send it through to the secretary to rasdeg@rasdeg.org.au ASAP! We will be encouraging more of our members to coordinate our club days so we don t burn out the same people. So please get a few of your friends together and let us know at the General Meeting which day you are happy to coordinate. This year we will be revamping our Gold Club helpers process and will be establishing a voucher system for hours worked. There is more about this in the newsletter. We have a huge list of clinics on offer as well as our competitions, time to get your diaries out and start planning for 2018.

5 Sign on Day & Saddlery Sale 18 February Members Only One test per rider - $25 Prep - Elementary Nominate HERE > Free BBQ Lunch Saddlery Sale Please contact Emma Churchill for information Stall prices - Free for 2018 members - Non Members $10 Volunteer Vouchers A voucher system for hours worked where members claim per 5 hour lots which will be a voucher for $10 applied to competition entries through Nominate. Members will be given a once use only code to input during the entry process. These will not be used to pay for clinics as we do not use Nominate as the booking system. Alison Scott has volunteered to manage the allocation of hours and the administration of the vouchers. This will be facilitated by a sign on sheet at each competition where member who are volunteering their time will make a note on a spreadsheet that is distributed to Alison at the conclusion of the competition. This list of volunteer hours worked can also be used to determine spaces for discounted entries for clinics. The more hours a member has volunteered they would receive preference in securing a space in a clinic. This is only if the clinic is oversubscribed or if a particular time slot is preferred. Please note that if you volunteer for a committee or an ancillary position with the club in 2018 you automatically gain 10 volunteer hours as we have determined that most positions will accrue at least 10 hours of behind the scene organisation.

6 Clinic Report After a successful 2017, the 2018 RASDEG clinics are already off to an amazing start. I would like to personally thank everyone who participated last year. Without your support we would not have been able to secure so many fantastic coaches. A big thanks also has to go to the committee for offering such a generous discount for the members that attended. Finally, I wouldn t have seemed so organised or send everyone pretty pictures of their lessons without the lady behind the lens and my personal reminding system, Lisette. The 2018 calendar is filling up quickly so in order to make sure that we can fill up clinics make sure you put the following dates into your diary. Saturday 3rd March Lea Bierman Saturday 17th March - Kay Paulsen Sunday 29th April Gary Lung Saturday 5th May Liz Coe Saturday 30th June Lisa Koppman Saturday 14th July Danielle Shearer Saturday 28th July Gary Lung Saturday 4th August Anjanette Harten Saturday 15th September Geraldine Van Monfrance-Eady Saturday 29th September Paula Price I look forward to another year of learning and lots of laughter! 7 Service to the sport This year RASDEG was proud to present Wendy Tidbold as a nominee for the Equestrian Queensland 2017 Service to Sport Award and for the Dressage Qld 2017 Vince Corvi Tribute award. She was accepted as a finalist for both awards. For those not familiar with Wendy s background and her long involvement with RASDEG here is the information we were able to provide which represents just a small insight into her great contributions to the sport.. Details of Wendy Tidbold s contribution to Equestrian sport: Wendy Tidbold is RASDEG s most senior riding member and an esteemed life member. Her membership spans 35 years and she was club President for 11 years. Her contribution has been immense and is recognised by a perpetual trophy - the Wendy Tidbold President s Award. Wendy was President during a difficult period in the 1990 s and 2000 s. In 1993, RASDEG moved from Pine Lodge to Judy Holt Park, an old dump site that the Council had prepared but was not suitable for riding as there was no grass or infrastructure. A fence was built by the club, a shipping container for storage was bought and the grounds seeded, top dressed and watered. As an active contributor to all this hard work, Wendy and the Club were distressed when suddenly the Redland Shire Council advised they wanted the grounds for cricket. While many would have given up, Wendy determined to negotiate a move to Cleveland showgrounds. Members involved during this difficult time described Wendy s as a calm Captain and a stalwart President who kept us all going when others would have just packed up and gone home. Reluctantly, the Council agreed and here her Presidency blossomed with an active competition program established, significant assets bought and a modern governance structure introduced. The club went from being a group of riders to one adopting a much more professional approach. Wendy has an open and encouraging approach to everyone and has inspired and supported many Redlands riders. Having turned 75 years of age in 2017, her energy and dedication to the sport and her passion to continue to improve her dressage riding is a huge inspiration. Wendy loves to train young horses and has bought many green horses to more advanced levels. This includes her retired Australian Stock horse gelding, Sirrocco Mac, and her current ride, Leo, an Andalusian she is competing at Elementary level. In addition Wendy has been a Saddler for over 40 years, making many dressage saddles to measure and specializing in new and restored Side Saddles. She provides an invaluable service in making new saddles, bridles or harness as well as professional repairs to leather gear and equipment. She is a member of the Saddlers & Harness Makers Association of Australia and has studied and competed in side saddle riding and saddlery in both the UK and USA. There is only a handful of saddlers in the world that specialize in making Side Saddles. Wendy s Side Saddles have been made for Australian customers as well as New Zealanders. Wendy has done Side Saddle segments on local TV and radio and in journals. For 13 years she ran a display at the RNA Horse Expo and for over 20 years was a regular side saddle competitor in the ring. In 2016 she was featured in a Women s Weekly article. Wendy has achieved success as an equestrian, craftsperson and business woman as well as raising three boys with her husband Mike who is also known at RASDEG for his scoring prowess.
