From the Commander: 1 May 2018 As you read this, a committee has been named to submit nominations for the upcoming elections to be held during the June 12th meeting. Please keep in mind that you are asked to make yourself available as a candidate for any office. There are offices that serve to acquaint you with our procedures and prepare you for future offices. Do not be hesitant to contact a member of the nomination committee and submit your name. Names of the committee members will be posted, and those members will be happy to talk to anyone with questions. As I have previously stated, we need fresh points of view. Once again, I ask all members to be aware of anyone who may be eligible for membership in any of our three organizations and extend an invitation. I am always hesitant to name names because others may be slighted, but I feel compelled to deviate from my personal policy. Take a look in the kitchen!! Bill Hose and Larry Schwartz are responsible for a prodigious amount of work that has resulted in a tremendous improvement. Manifold advantages are to be realized which include easier to clean, improved access and storage, etc. DO NOT BE HESITANT TO THANK THEM!! I feel our organization is constantly improving but always has room for more - that is the reason I constantly beg for more members to become involved. Complaints and suggestions can only be guaranteed to be addressed if YOU present them at a meeting. Be prepared to participate in the Memorial Day activities in the community. I would like to put a push on the membership to use the ONLINE renewal for the 2019 year. It saves you postage, writing a check and mailing it. It only takes a minute to 1

2 do this. Need your ID number and a credit card. The day after you renew I get a notice to send your card. So easy. Dick Yeakle, Adjutant Phone: yeaklednl@myactv.net Post Everlasting: The Chaplain s Corner: Ray Dwayne Hensley, 67, of Williamsport, Md, passed away Thursday April 5, 2018 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, Md. Services were held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 11am at Donald Thompson Funeral Home. Post 222 was privileged to conduct Military Honors at Little Rose Hill Cemetery. Sick Call & Relief: Bruce Cunningham is doing better each week and should be back with us soon. Larry McBee is still the same and the family had a birthday party for him and he Is now 78 and was so happy that day. FYI: On May 27 at 9:15 AM Post 222 will conduct Military Honors for Joseph C. Herbert At St. John s United Church of Christ in Clear Spring and Military Honors at 11 AM at Rose Hill Cemetery, East of Clear Spring on US40. All members are asked to come. The Extra Mile Award In His Service: Phil Burgan. Chaplain The Clear Spring Legion Executive Committee would like to recognize our cleaning crew Dirty Mops Cleaning, specifically Miranda Henson, Louise Henson & Bree Hart, for their exceptional extra work efforts during our recent kitchen renovation project. These ladies stepped up to the plate and worked extra hours (to our schedule) to thoroughly clean the kitchen, literally from floor to ceiling (and above). They also cleaned out the attic space above the kitchen which hadn't been cleaned probably since the 1970's or before as evidenced by some of the artifacts removed. Neither were glamorous jobs, but they tackled them with determination and professionalism seldom seen now-a-days! And, they are still working for us and smiling! 3 From the Legion Auxiliary RAFFLE - The Unit will be holding an "Orioles Package" raffle. The package will be for Sunday, September 16, 2018 and will include seats for four and a parking pass. The Orioles will be playing the White Sox. The drawing will be held at our Annual Steak Feed (Aug. 10th). The first ticket drawn will be for the "Orioles Package" and the second ticket drawn will be for a Tailgate Grill with accessories. Tickets will soon be available at the Legion Bar. Buy a Raffle ticket for a chance to win a great prize! UP-COMING 2018 EVENTS: Our Annual Steak Feed will be held August 10, 2018 at the Pavilion. This is our Fund Raiser for Scholarships for local high school seniors. We have been able to award two scholarships over the past several years due to your support. The Unit Thanks You. October 20, 2018 in the Ballroom will be "Bingo Night". Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves at the last two that were held, and we hope you will join us again. More information on the Steak Feed and "Bingo Night" will be available in future issues of The Triple Deuce. Sharon Ensminger, Secretary/Treasurer From the S.A.L: All 2017 SAL dues are due. If not paid soon they won t be processed in time for new fiscal year and you could lose your membership. From the Activities Committee: Brent Mills, SAL Since the previous newsletter, your activities committee has held two meetings & we have held a successful Steak and Shrimp Feed. We sold 118 tickets to the April 13 th event and received very good feedback from all who attended. A special thanks to all who helped during this event we couldn't do it without the extra help! Come out to our next Steak Feed on Friday, May 4 th and help us reach the sellout crowd limit of 125! We need YOU and your family & friends to attend & support our club, thereby helping the local community and veterans. Folks, I hope each one realizes how we operate and that if it weren't for these fund raiser events, our club would suffer drastically. Post 222 strives to produce quality fund-raising events for you to attend. We must pay the bills and the salaries of our great employees and make very little, if any, off our restaurant food & bar operations. Think about that. We also contribute a lot to the local community (schools, scouts, etc.) and continue to support and help our veteran community any way we can. All we are asking is for you to support us in these efforts by attending our feeds and other events and enjoy the company and good fellowship. This 3

4 Feed will be the first one outside at the pavilion, so plan on coming out and enjoying fresh air and celebrating the arrival of Spring!! Saturday Oct 6 th, a Crab Feed with doors opening at noon and crabs served from 1-3pm. Stadium Tavern has confirmed they will provided the steamed crabs and we have limited ticket sales to 125 people. I guarantee these will go fast and we will be posting a date soon for when they will go on sale. Buy your tickets early so you aren't left out! Date Change: The Shrimp Feed originally scheduled for August 25 th has been changed to August 18 th & will feature a Beach Party theme with live music by Mike McManus lots of Jimmy Buffett!
