3 From Your Commander: Where does time go? June along with Boys State is gone for another year. Of course with no reps from our area it is time to start for next year. Don't forget in October, look for the announcement of Butch Miller coming into the Post to put on a program about all of the programs the American Legion has to offer the community. This will be open to anyone who is interested, children, parents, teachers, fire, rescue, police and anyone who is interested in putting someone in for an award which could be monetary or of monetary value. I would like to thank all of our volunteers who helped out on the day of caring for United fund. An extra Thank You to Drew Wallace and Bob Carper for scouting out our project for the day along with getting the supplies needed. Naturally you never have everything. There were a few extra trips to finish getting some extra items. I would like to thank the ladies for a beautiful job on the flower beds with the expertise of Toni Reynolds. God blessed us with holding off the rain so we could get the majority of it done. There were a few things that had to be finished up after the rains subsided the next week. I hope everyone has a nice Fourth of July Holiday and watch upcoming dates of events this month. The State Department Convention is coming up Starting July12-15th. There will be an organizational Meeting on the 18th at Post 47 at 7 pm. Our post will be hosting the ALR Ride for the Vets. You don't have to ride to come and join in the fun, with raffles and food. Come join in on the camaraderie. All of the new officers are now sworn in and pursuing their positions. As usual our main goal is membership, since we have lost several members this year it would be nice to get new younger members to join to keep our totals up. Another thing if you know of anyone that will have a hard time getting dues paid let us know, or better yet be a friend and help them out. Remember we are family and we should hang together and help one another. So far we have the 14th, the 21st, and the 28th as guest days, so bring in a friend show them around and sign them up. Here's to hoping you have a Happy 4th and a safe 4th of July. May God Bless everyone and watch over all our veterans past and present, and don't be afraid to help those in need. See You at the Convention. A huge thank you goes out to those special people who every year places the American Flag on the graves in the cemeteries for our departed veterans. 4 From Your SAL Commander: Hello Legion Family, Starting off on a good note, our squadron ended the year at % of our goal, with 178 members! Great job to everyone. This year, to keep things rolling and encourage early bird sign-up, we are offering an incentive. All members who have paid their dues by September 30 th will be automatically entered in a drawing for $50.00 so look for your membership reminder postcards in the mail. Better yet, use this article as your reminder and mail your dues (18 and older: $30. Juniors: $7.50. Dual members: $7.50.) to Post 97 P.O. Box 650 Auburn, IN Attn: SAL. The raffle tickets are almost half gone but we really could use some help selling. Call the Post and leave a message with your name and phone number stating that you would like to help sell and we ll see to it that you ll get some tickets! Another reminder that a $10 ticket will get the buyer a chance for an Albright s gift card worth $ plus the 5-cu ft chest freezer on display at the post or a cash prize of $ Tickets will be limited to the first 200 sold. Drawing will take place only after all 200 sold so there is no way of giving a date. Motion was passed to buy a much-needed back-up camera for the Legion bus. By the way, have you seen the bus? It must be one the nicest looking, most patriotic vehicles on the road! Come by and check it out. Upcoming events: 2018 American Legion Department Convention is July th. The rooms blocked for Legion member s discount are filled but there might be rooms left at a somewhat higher rate. Check out for more info. Our regular meetings are every 3rd Monday at 7:00 pm in the Post s reception hall. Burger and Fries night is every 4 th Wednesday of the month from 5-7. $5.00 will get you a burger and fixins with a side of fries. $7.00 for a double burger and fries. Cheese included if you like. Thanks to all who attend and support this night and those who help put this on every month. Don t forget, we are always looking for volunteers. SAL 4 th District Meeting The upcoming meeting on July 11 th will be in New Haven at Post 330. Be at the Post by 5:45 if you would like to join us. The Legion provides us with either the van or the bus (if they are available that night) to haul all who would like to go. Many thanks go out to the Legion for this. 5 From Your President: Hello Ladies, HAPPY SUMMER!! We hope everyone is doing well. The Auxiliary is still collecting for the Children s 1 st Center. We will end our project the last week of July. Please look at the list of items to purchase or we also take cash donation too. The Auxiliary Down Home Cooking will be Wednesday, July 11 from 5-7p.m. on the menu will be a Hot Doggy Bar w/ fixings and a side for $5.00. Please come down with your family and friends. All the proceeds will go to the programs to help our veterans and families. Our next Auxiliary Unit meeting will be Wednesday, August 1 st at 6:00p.m. Please come and join us with your thoughts and ideas. We will not have a meeting in July because of July 4 th being on Wednesday. Enjoy Independence Day-Celebrate the founding of America!! 6 From Your ALR Director: Howdy all, Would like to start out by thanking everyone that showed up to participate in the Memorial Day services at the Courthouse and for the Flag Disposal Ceremony held at the Post. I received several compliments on the how well the American Legion Riders performed that day. Again, thank you everyone. The Run for the Vets event is getting closer and from the last meeting that we had after our ALR meeting, it is evident that we need some help from all of our members. If everyone could try and solicit just business for a donation/item we would be good to go. The food for this event is pretty much covered. I have heard from our State Director that the in-state Legacy Run probably will not happen this year which is unfortunate. It is unfortunate but planning is way behind and I have not received much in the way of communication for this. This however does not affect our donation or the donation from the 4 th District. Those donations will still be made during one of the stops on the National Legacy Scholarship Run. Our membership is still growing which is a testament to the reputation of our Chapter, so let us keep that in mind and strive to becoming better and working together stay as strong as we can. Speaking of membership, we are now into the 2019 membership dues and you can start paying them. Our Membership Officer will pick up the new 2019 cards at the Summer Convention in Indianapolis in July. Installation of new Officers for the Legion, Auxiliary and SAL were completed on June 11 th. Please congratulate the new Officers when you see them. A special night for those 21 and over, July 28th. We are presenting for your entertainment a Night of Comedy, starting at 7:00PM.
