1 Wellbeing Stockport A welcoming and safe place to be! Welcome to the first edition of Wellbeing news, the purpose is to share information and ideas as well as profiling some of the activities happening locally. We are keen to print your articles and stories for any wellbeing related activities. Hope you enjoy your read. We would like to have your comments on developing this newsletter and making it relevant to what you need. Feb/Mar2018 Issue: 1 In this issue: List of Wellbeing activities Community Group Spotlight Feedback Survey Video diary Dates for your diary The Wellbeing service is a project of Stockport Centre of Independent Living, hosted by Disability Stockport. The Centre in itself is a shared space between Primus and Disability Stockport. Groups can use the space available, and receive support from the staff team and the wellbeing coordinator during the day and in the evenings for various activities. The activities include, supporting individuals, groups, and exploring pathways to people s independence. The Centre is airy and welcoming and consists of a large hall, a training room, small interview rooms, an easy room and life skills. Stockport CIL Team manages The Wellbeing Centre. 2 Activities The Wellbeing activities at the Centre are listed below, there are others like Connect, but they do not have set days. Group members are encouraged to interact with other groups of interest. The outcome of the survey stated that people who used the centre were happy that they did. They wanted a much more transparent and effective communication line with updated activities list. Volunteers wanted more co-production activities. In the last year over 3000 people accessed activities at the Wellbeing Centre. Aba will put an action plan with timescale together to highlight the recommendations of the feedback and to ensure a swift response. She will be interested in working together with any of the groups volunteers to co-produce the action plan. Anyone interested in reading the full report please aba.graham@disabilitystockport.org.uk

3 Community Spotlight! Our group of trained volunteers who collectively work together to offer support to individuals to complete their applications for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), or Employment Support Allowance (ESA). They also share information on social security benefit sanctions and help with referrals to the appropriate service in cases where advice, or representation in appeals is required. Solidarity operates on a 'drop-in' basis. There is no need to book just drop in. The work they do is so valuable and it sometimes gets too busy, so bear that in mind particularly if you need the form completing on the same day. It can take up to two hours or more. Therefore it makes sense to arrive as early as possible but no later than 2.00 p.m. It is advisable to bring lunch with you. Tea and coffee is available for a small donation.

4 We need your views on videos Are you interested in sharing your story about the work you do with Wellbeing? The dates for the filming has been set for, Thursday 1st Feb pm Friday 2nd Feb 1-3pm In preparation it would be good to have an idea of who is interested in sharing their work and promoting positive stories. The expectation would be: 1. That interested Group Leaders would have some participatory involvement in the filming. 2. A very short interview would take place with either 1 or 2 volunteers or participants. 3. Once you show your interest, a small number of questions would be sent out to the interested parties, but people are welcome to talk freely, subject to editing. Please note that people do not need to appear on interviews if they are camera shy as we can play answers over general footage. Tim & Chris will be doing the filming. Please contact aba.graham@disabilitystockport.org.uk if you are interested. Help us become greener Green Pledge: Disability Stockport is raising awareness about Recycling and we want your help! Over the next few weeks you ll see recycling facilities popping up across both sites. We re aiming to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We believe it s our responsibility to ensure that we promote this as part of our everyday work and we can all play a part in this. 5 New Initiatives SMILE packs. Period poverty means going without essential sanitary products. We want to share an initiative with you that we hope will help: Something Monthly Is (a) Little Essential (with an Extra treat) Smile packs will be available in the SCIL and will allow people who need them for themselves or their family to access them quickly and easily without the need to be referred elsewhere. Please share with someone you know, and help us by donating something to the above
