The most important of which are for the highest average chapter size (37.7), highest membership (+943) & chapter growth, increase in average chapter size by 3.4 members. Further Mumbai West & Bangalore North have consistently been in the Top 10 in the World Traffic Lights which is the Global performance standard for BNI regions. BNI India has had an excellent track record of launching 11 Hall of Fame chapters (a chapter which launches with 35+ members) in the year 2012 and helping existing chapters turn Platinum (a chapter above 50+ members). Currently one of the largest chapters in the world is BNI Alpha chapter in Mumbai with 72 strong members! With our hard work, dedication and passion we look forward to add value to the local business communities in India. We have built our organization on the philosophy of Givers Gain. In 2012, BNI India members passed 1.68 Lac referrals which have helped generate over Crores of Business. Since 2004, BNI India has generated over ` 1241 Crores in business for its members. We can't think of a better way to demonstrate that networking is a truly powerful and life changing tool and that BNI really is Changing the Way the World Does Business! 3 You re a Member Now What? One of the most crucial times for a new member is the first 90 days of their membership. Having another seasoned member to show you the ropes and be there to support you in the initial few weeks makes a huge difference. BNI has always understood the power of mentoring and has a well developed system in place. The Odyssey chapter in Mumbai West recently launched a 6 week Mentor- Mentee program which provides all the necessary help to become a successful member in BNI. The key difference was that the entire program was run through BNIConnect (an online social media platform for BNI members only) with both mentor and mentee getting a detailed weekly on what to discuss. This makes sure that no one misses out key information and everyone gets a similar quality of mentoring. National Director, Niiraj R Shah, initially mentored the mentors by running the 6 weeks with a live mentee on the call so that all mentors understood how to deliver each week. There is a system of follow up and homework for the mentee to do. This means that each mentee gets a practical understanding of key success steps. We got raving feedback from both mentors and mentees from Odyssey chapter. In BNI we are constantly finding ways which help our members to make more money. In the first year you should not expect many referrals, as referrals take time and trust. The most important thing you can do is build relationships. Remember if you follow the advice, tips & suggestions, you will be very successful in your membership of BNI. It is the system that works: you just need to work the system. "This was an opportunity to gain deeper understanding of the practicalities of maximising our participation in BNI." Naresh Karmalker (Mentee) This session was very informative and was explained in the simplest form supported with real life examples. 4 An Olympics in BNI s own backyard a Mumbai Story! They say Variety is the spice of life ; that adage is true as much during work as it is in play! After a series of socials, all different from each other it was again time for Pinnacle, the energetic 7 year old chapter from Mumbai, to think of something off beat to help the new members bond with the seasoned members. That was when the Social design committee decided on something whacky, an Olympics type sports event, the Pinnalympics! The sheer logistics of this was so challenging that we had to go for it. 60 members, with spouses not to speak of the children was enough bait & to top it all such an event had never been attempted in BNI India! Up at 8am on a Sunday morning the 5 teams got together & gave it all they had. Most races had a BNI ring to them; there was watch the referral (lemon & spoon), carry the BNI wallet (balance the BNI wallet on the head), off to a BNI meeting (a race for former Chapter Directors where they wore meeting attire as they raced towards the finish) & possibly the most exciting, carry your visitor to a BNI meeting (a race for couples, where one spouse carried the other on his or her back)! Muscles & tendons that one didn t know existed were in action & the chapter s physiotherapist generated quite a number of referrals. Member bonding was at its best, not only amongst each other but also their families. With hot sizzlers to follow, the aches were all worth it! By Team Pinnacle, Mumbai 4 M A R C H

[The figures given below are based on the data collected from 1st December 2012 to February 28th 2013] Puneet Datta is from the Excellence chapter in Gurgaon. He has given referrals which have generated business of over 3.22 Crores for his chapter members. Puneet is a well known Jeweller and the Lead visitor host as well. He has gained immense visibility and credibility amongst his group and in BNI we know that Visibility + Credibility= Profitability. He believes that Business is not a one time deal but a life long relationship and he is grateful to build strong relationships with members at BNI. Makrand Desai from Alpha chapter in Mumbai West has helped generate over 3.05 crores of business for his chapter members. He is associated with BNI since 6 years for his Event Planning business and has also sponsored 6 members into BNI. Makrand is also a part of our Regional Director Team and is setting a great example of a True Giver. 3 Rohit Suraj is an Interior Designer and is a part of the newest chapter Elite which was launched on 30th January 2013 in Hyderabad. It is the first time that a member has given business of over 93.8 Lacs on the day of the launch of the chapter. It is a great start to his BNI membership and we wish him all the best! Mr Santosh Bhurani from Champions chapter in Bangalore North has invited over 300 visitors to his chapter out of which 27 members have joined. The average seat is worth nearly 18 lakhs which means he has added 4.86 crores of business for his chapter. I was invited to Dynamic Chapter in June 2009 and it was Love at First Sight seeing 32 enthusiastic members passing referrals and money slips. As my category was filled, I was invited to Champions Chapter where I attended with greater passion along with my cheque. I was quite disappointed as there were only 15 members in the chapter however I decided to join. Having seen a bubbling chapter of 32 I believed that Champions too can scale up to a high level. Being in Real Estate, I had a good client database and as I used to meet new customers every day, it was very easy for me pass referrals and invite visitors. I made it a point that after discussing about my business with my clients, I would refer them to members or invite them to our BNI meeting. Apart from inviting my clients and friends, I used to go a step further by doing a Google search for vacant category prospects and inviting the best on the list. I also did the following: Walking into attractive Showrooms and offices, talk about my business and later invite them to BNI Call Chairman / MD of Industries / MNCs so that members benefit from their presence If a member had asked for a specific referral, invite that person itself to the meeting BNI and Bhurani can never be separated, coz BhuraNI starts with a B and ends with NI - by Santosh Bhurani It is a good practice to get more and more visitors and help build your chapter as this will result to More business..more business..more business... 6 PEOPLE PRIORITY What type of a Networker are you? Many of us go to networking events regularly and if we know exactly how to interact with others we can generate more business and more referrals. According to Tony Alessandra, an expert in behavioral styles, there is a Platinum Rule to treat other people the way they want and need to be treated which should be practiced. Based on their research there are 4 behavioral styles which are identified namely the Go Getter, the Examiner, the Nurturer and the Promoter. As soon as you can identify the type of networker you are talking to you can know what they are like and what to expect of them. SLOW PACED NURTURERS Key desire is Harmony in the groups Friendly & Sensitive Team Players Best Listeners EXAMINERS Key desire is Accuracy Analytical Perfectionists Highly Organized PROMOTERS Key desire is fun, excitement Socialziers Persuasive Positive Thinkers FOUR CORE STYLES TASK PRIORITY GO GETTERS Key desire is Results Want things NOW Good Delegators Play to Win FAST PACED For Go Getters the key desire is results, they want things to be done Now. These people are very good delegators, they work best under pressure and deadlines. Go Getters are always In it to Win it. So when you meet a go getter it is very essential for you to get straight to the business conversations. They are attracted to people who radiate success, are sharp dressers, thorough professionals and results oriented. Our Tip while networking with them: Be quick, Be fast, Get them results and Be Gone. Examiners are more analytical, highly organized people. They think and plan every move and like to have everything in place. Their motto is perfection and precision. They are great planners and have processes for everything. What's hard for them is unpredictable people and incomplete or unclear directions. When you network with an Examiner make sure you give them a lot of information and details about how the relationship could last longer. They are attracted to people who are thorough, focused, ask the right questions and have a high degree of integrity. Our Tip while networking with them: Examiners see networking as a necessity so they come to an event with a plan in mind. Give them as much details as possible about how you could help them achieve their plan. Nurturers are the people who desire Harmony, Safety, and Security amongst the groups. They believe in having personal one to one relationships with people. They are by far the best listeners and because of their friendly nature and sensitivity it is very easy to go and talk to a Nurturer. When you meet a nurturer he will spend more quality time first to find about you as a person and then as a business owner. Our Tip while networking with them: They know that if you believe in each other and have high trust and respect for each other then there will be a win-win opportunity for referrals. Promoters have a key desire for fun, excitement, visibility and recognition. They are the ones who love to talk; they have the power of persuasion. They have the ability to get other people excited about their ideas more than themselves. When you meet a promoter it is essential you add fun to the conversation. They are attracted to people who are positive, outgoing energetic. They look for people who are loudest in the room, people who are smiling often. Our Tip while networking with them: Bring more energy and positiveness to any conversation you have with them. According to Dawn Lyons, your behavioral style is affecting your referral ability so use it wisely. You are not walking into a room full of people when you got to networking events; you are walking into a room full of referrals. The real question is- do you know HOW to network for those referrals? 6 M A R C H

7 Having timely and engaging conversations with other BNI members has never been so easy! Are you making the right Connections? Managing Connections is one aspect of Social Networking on BNIConnect. This feature enables users to make new connections or manage current connections with the other BNI members throughout the world. Once you have logged into BNIConnect you are able to search for the members anywhere in the world through the My Connections Tab on the dashboard. It allows you to search for people according to specific keywords, professions etc. By adding the relevant connections to your profile and managing them effectively will help you experience and leverage power of this tool on BNIConnect. Making the right connections and gradually building the relationships can open many doors for generating referrals and business for each other. We also have 15 chapters under formation across India. New cities gathering momentum are Delhi South, Kolkata & Nashik. All expected to launch their first chapters in April/May. Our Goal this year is to have the Average Chapter size of 41 and Retention Rate of 70%. We are looking at being at the 110 chapter mark with over 4500 members by end of 2013!
