FORTHCOMING EVENTS THANK YOU Derry Journal People of the Year Awards Kinship carers, Geraldine, Lorna, Jacinta and Hazel were crowned Carer of the Year at the 2016 Derry Journal People of the Year Awards. Carers were absolutely delighted at receiving their award and spoke courageously about their experiences bringing up their relative s children. Thank you to the Derry Journal for a great evening and congratulations to our carers who made us feel extremely proud. Congratulations Nicole Congratulations to Nicole Browne who received Firmus Energy s Person To Be Proud Of Award. Nicole who is raising her younger siblings was delighted at receiving her award and winning a luxury overnight stay in a hotel of her choice. 2 Cook With Me Children cooked up a storm and had a fantastic time baking chocolate brownies and gingerbread men. African Drums Children participated in a 4 week African Drum Programme where they made lots of noise and loads of new friends. Read With Me Children completed a 6 week Reading Programme and had a fantastic time reading stories and learning nursery rhymes. Graffiti Art Young people tried their hand at graffiti art and created fantastic cards, banners and pictures.
3 Halloween Party W5 Celebrations Trail of Terror Openwave Mobility Compete 65KM Charity Cycle A massive thank you to all the staff at Openwave Mobility who completed a 65KM Charity Cycle and raised 3, towards our work with children and young people in kinship care. Special thanks to Julie Ferry for organising the event and completing the cycle. We are delighted everyone had a great time and made it across the finish line. 6 Unusual Suspects Festival Information Stand Dungannon New Support Group for Male Kinshi p Carers We had an amazing time sharing our experiences and the journey of Kinship Care NI at the Unusual Suspects Festival at the Holywell Trust in Derry/Londonderry and the Ulster Museum in Belfast. A huge thank you to the Social Innovation Exchange and The Young Foundation and to everyone who came along and supported us. Kuddles our Kinship Care Bear made a special appearance at the Oak Centre in Dungannon where he met lots of interesting people and handed out information on services available to kinship carers and their children in the area. Workshop University of Ulster Find Insurance NI Purple Day Bake Sale Celebrating #socialsaturday2016 Robert Hagan from the University of Ulster held two workshops with grandparent carers who shared their stories, including their achievements of bringing up their grandchildren. Staff from Find Insurance NI held a Purple Day Bake Sale to raise money and awareness of kinship care. Thank you to everyone who took part and for raising the profile of our work with kinship carers and their children. Volunteers from our Kids n Kinship Shop celebrated #socialsaturday2016 with a popup shop at Northside Shopping Centre. Thank you to members of the public for coming along and supporting us and to Des Farrell and Stephen O Carroll for all their help.
7 Our Impact 1 Year 18 Sibling Carers and 66 children engaged in services 17 children engaged in sibling time activities 6 sibling carers attended training/support group activities 5 summer activities 16 & 7 Children Carers 3 volunteers registered 11 awards received attended by 71 children and their families received advice and information 7 & CHILDREN 2 SIBLING CARERS engaged in group activities 75% of children enjoyed groups attended 100% of children and sibling carers enjoyed activities attended 100% of sibling carers said they felt more positive about their family situation Kinship Care NI Officially One to Watch Our 3 social enterprises ( Kuddles our Kinship Care Bear, Kids n Kinship Shop and School of Confidence) were joint winners of the One to Watch category at the 2016 Social Enterprise NI Awards held in the Stormont Hotel in Belfast. Staff and volunteers had a fantastic evening and we are now shortlisted for the 2016 Social Enterprise UK Awards to be held in London in December A big thank you to everyone at Social Enterprise NI, especially Amanda Johnson for her continued support and a great night.
