Please tell us how we can exceed your expectations in the future Select members for chapter positions of leadership based solely on the candidate's demonstrated technical expertise and sound judgement rather than on advantageous political, personal and professional alliances or other self-serving considerations. Quite frankly, because I do not have the time to put into HFMA stuff (programs, newsletters, etc), it will be most difficult to exceed expectations when not a lot of time has been put into setting expectations. And that is not HFMA's doing. some of the speakers need a little presentation coaching. You are fine. Just stay the course. Overall a good job is done by all of the officers of the chapter Plan better programs The cost of your programs are TOO HIGH! That is why I don't attend more Offer more webinars. The timing of most of the meetings are too early in the month for my staff and me to attend Less theory - More practical application The superiority attitude of the veteran CFOs vis-a-vis the "Close club" planning for the CFO golf outing presentations is not appreciated. The chapter fneeds more capital finance topics, and "Accounting & Reimbursement" is not the right committee for that---they hit on it only once every three years. Better organization, interaction and communication from the Program Committee to committee chairs There are too little opportunities to network and too few opportunities to get involved with the chapter. What do my dues go towards, the only meetings cost me money and there are too few of them. increase participation from the provider community Focus more on the State issue which are many at present move more out of the basic healthcare issue and expand into more comprehensive issues like reimbursement changes and how to get those implemented; implications of various regulations and other market activities (health systems, physician collaboration, reform, payer consolidation, etc.) Didn't know there was a website. Signed up for 3 committeess at the new member function, but haven't heard from any of them. Wonder if they are defunct or didn't recive my interest form. More member case studies highlighted in newsletter and website Have events that attract additional CFOs for networking opportunities Increase provider participation and reduce the amount of vendors. Address issues that affect Illinois healthcare providers. Educational topics not only covering hospitals but also group medical practices and FQHCs. More up to date newsletter. With today's economy the cost of the programs and networking opportunities is beyond my budget. My employer is also limiting the number of people and conferences a person can attend. Things are changing daily on teh natioal scene of healthcare...more and complete updates would be beneficial. I've volunteered for multiple committees only to never hear back from anyone? Focus more on the global and strategic issues instead of the tactical solutions Perception Solutions, Inc. Page 5
Please tell us how we can exceed your expectations in the future It would be great to have more emphasis on innovation and breakthroughs in RCM and other HC topics. Reform and how to survive is another great area of focus. More educational sessions not centered around reimbursement issues I am biased but would like more info on reducing costs - Schedule more programs/opportunties for later in the month (after 15th). Posting accounting cycle close I would appreciate more information on technical accounting updates that impact healthcare organizations. I'd like to see educational sessions focused on the back-end of the revenue cycle. Everyhing seems to focus on payment at the point of service, but that may not be the optimal solution HFMA on the whole needs to expand the topics being covered. ICD-10 is an issue that HFMA is turning a blind eye to and it has the potential to bring healthcare reimbursement to a standstill. HFMA needs to begin to address how this change will affect finance and how to begin preparations today. This is not just an HIM issue. There was no follow-up on volunteer activities after the orientation meeting. I would like more opportunities to network with decision makers. More frequent events that are networking with speakers. Setting up a schedule for once a month with one timely speaker and a chance to network would help connect people to the chapter more. Would like to see more downtown meetings/events 2010 Perception Solutions, Inc. Page 6
Please name any other topics that you would like to see your HFMA chapter address this year. Be as specific as possible. Bill coding - both hospitals and physicians - keeps growing in complexity. All captured above Capital finance. RAC MIC OIG Workplan financial models and opportunties for physician hospital alignment Red flags identity theft compliance Financing of providers other than hospitals The charity care issue again investments, debt, physician integration/employment Charity program management and reporting Revenue Cycle Management. Revenue cycle yield. Improved patient access solutions Collaboration on innovative payment models with employers & payers Pilot/Demo projects Technical accounting/fasb updates. Workers' compensation. Research that addresses financial areas. Performance outcomes from changes in the way hospitals conduct their business Perception Solutions, Inc. Page 7
What would make your chapter's events so compelling that you would have to attend more frequently? More careful and insightful educational program planning of important, cohesive and extremely insightful programs with compelling topics and more than average speakers. In some programs it is evident that the committees are going through the motions rather than delivering an educational experience worth the time and expense of the member to attend. more at downtown location Probably half-day events that were more convenient to my work location (near north side of Chicago). topics - revenue cycle in particular - bill coding, reimbursement issues, computer system controls. The organizations I have been employed by are all in negative financial positions. Therefore, unable to attend. My schedule is what prevents me from attending meetings. Better topics at the programs more time/ less demands at work reduced price / free. I don't have budget to pay a hundred dollars for every event. What are my dues for??? The location and the price. RAC issues for Illinois hospitals. I would be interested in how they are handling the audits. Topics seem good--just impossible timing for us to get to. Educational subjects. 1) be allowed into the CFO golf outing educational talks; 2) Hitting on capital finance topics. The events all look very good, but most of them do not have the subject matter I am interested in. More c-suite level attendance Informatin on topics that I could bring back to the organization and use in my job. Hot topics and challenging, professional speakers More on how Meaningful Use is affecting Financial picture for hospitals More compelling topics, less cost. combination of topics covered and increased participation by provider memebers I would attend more frequently but we are a safety net hospital and must watch our costs especially with the State paying so slowly. Cost is the main reason we do not attend more. low price, convenient access (local) and shorter sessions More networking opptortunities, downtown Chicago location and inexpensive New information More networking opportunities Just continuing to present timely information, as you have been doing. Moving event locations around occasionally so that members at the far extremes of the area might have a better chance to attend. Less selling to the providers by the vendors Less vendor attendance Be informed about them. Educational topics that blend strategy and finance and not just narrowly focused on revenue cycle, coding and compliance. Location 2010 Perception Solutions, Inc. Page 8
What would make your chapter's events so compelling that you would have to attend more frequently? Sometimes I am unable to attend becauset here may be a scheduling conflict. In addition, I would likely attend more frequently if my budget was larger or the event cost was cheaper. Can't miss topics Again, the cost of the event is not within my budget and my employer is limiting the number of conferences a person can attend. It's been a timing issue I dont think the chapter could solve, necessarily - client needs will always supercede, and it's been bad timing for the past year make them more cutting edge, rather than the mundane. location, dates and price Topics already mentioned, access to members for networking purposes, round-table workshops to discuss best practices and gaps more high profile speakers Event timing is important. The last two weeks of the month are much better than the first two which at times can be impossible Social events, seminars with 2 educational focuses cost and time - Subject, location, date & time A change of topics expanding the topics covered. follow up by the chapter Topic I would like more CFO meetings and opportunities to present my business. Getting more industry participants instead of being so weighted to service providers to the industry. More frequency. I always get something out of the meetings and would like to see more. Downtown location 2010 Perception Solutions, Inc. Page 9
Please offer any other comment that you have for your chapter continue your excellent communications and great value educational programs, especially web based. Not sure what "participating in social networking groups with First Illinois" would involve. Overall, I am satisfied with the amount and level of communication of emerging topics and the opprtunities that I have for continued education. The two things that typically prevent me from attending an event is a scheduling conflict and/or the price. I am currently semi retired after 36 years and work as a consultant at PCH. I work mainly with the RAC audits. There appears to be more vendors at the educational events, than anyothers. I wonder if that has something to do with attendance? I beleive the is a great organization and provides very valuable information. Love the chapter - have served in the past, but now I can't seem to get any traction on my volunteering to volunteer? I think you would get more participation from higher levels if the content was focused on strategic solutions. A lot of hospital members don't attend because of they fear the venders will try and sell them something. I have recently become more involved by volunteering and would love more opportunties to engage (more volunteering) Perception Solutions, Inc. Page 10
