The Hamilton Lane Culture Hamilton Lane s culture encourages the creation of strong connections with our co-workers, our clients and our community. We have always promoted giving back to our community, and in 2013 we decided to formalize our efforts by creating the HL in Action program. This employee-led initiative was created as a way to bring volunteer efforts in-house and make them an official part of the Hamilton Lane experience. HL in Action provides a unique opportunity for employees to serve their local and global communities by actively volunteering and supporting charitable causes, either individually or as a team. What began simply as an idea has grown tremendously since its inception, and we look forward to continuing to serve our communities and to dedicating our time and resources to organizations in need. 68 % Employee participation 22 Total events 2 Team only events 13 HLIA events VTO hours used Organizations supported by Matching Gifts Program 47 Employees participated in the Matching Gifts Program Donation drives/walks
Since Volunteers per year 60 Students/Littles 3k+ Hours volunteered Big Brothers Big Sisters is a national organization that helps at-risk children beat the odds by helping them realize their potential through mentoring and friendship. In 2009, Hamilton Lane and the Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania program began their corporate partnership. Each year, about 30 Hamilton Lane employees take on the role of Big to more than 60 Littles from the Mastery Charter School Shoemaker Campus in western Philadelphia. For approximately seven months, Bigs and Littles meet bi-monthly at the Hamilton Lane Headquarters, where they can participate in group activities or simply sit, talk and spend time together. Many of these relationships span the Littles entire high school career, and are designed to offer one-on-one mentoring to children facing adversity. The program is highlighted by a couple of key events throughout the academic year. Reverse Day, when Bigs take a bus to the Littles school and spend a day on their campus touring and meeting their teachers, as well as the end of the year party, have become unique ways to celebrate and further demonstrate our ongoing dedication to the program. Ultimately, our goal is to help our Littles along the path to creating a more promising future.
Main Line Animal Rescue is a local organization that rescues, treats and places abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals. Through advocacy and education, MLAR works to raise awareness about the benefits of adopting an animal in need. Despite a workforce of more than four hundred active volunteers, MLAR is always in need of help to care for the more than 300 animals living in their shelters at any given time. Hamilton Lane has been volunteering at MLAR since 2013 and, over the years, the two organizations have developed a strong partnership. On several occasions, Hamilton Lane has sent groups of volunteers to spend the day onsite helping the organization complete a variety of day-to-day tasks. From building brand new cat towers and dog beds, to working directly with the animals, volunteers have helped enhance animal playtime and allowed them to feel more relaxed in their new environment.
Since Pounds of food donated in Hours volunteered Philabundance is a Philadelphia-based organization that was created with the simple belief that no person should go hungry. As the region s largest hunger relief organization, Philabundance contributes to a broad spectrum of social services through food cupboards, emergency kitchens, shelters, daycares and senior centers. By implementing both emergency relief and also long-term strategies to strengthen the hunger safety net, they are creating innovative programs to make nutritious food available to anyone in need. Philabundance relies on nearly 20,000 volunteers per year to distribute 20 million pounds of food to agencies and individuals throughout 9 counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Over the last two years, Hamilton Lane has supported their mission to drive hunger from our communities by participating in several events including in-office food drives to collect non-perishable items, and volunteering at the Hunger Relief Center to help Philabundance distribute food and local produce.
Wordsworth is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides a continuum of education, behavioral health treatment and child welfare services to children, adolescents and families. Wordsworth provides caring and professional services in a variety of settings, and continues to grow and introduce new programming to meet the changing needs of the community. Through a residential treatment program, special education programs, and a number of other programs in homes, schools and the community, Wordsworth is helping to enrich the local Philadelphia community. The organization has grown from serving 20 students to more than 2,000 children and youth each year. Additionally, Wordsworth partners with the Philadelphia School District, Department of Education, and the Department of Human Services to serve the needs of the community. Hamilton Lane is proud to support Wordsworth s mission. From holiday toy drives to painting classrooms, Hamilton Lane employees have donated material goods as well as their time to benefit this community.
Human Resources and Legal The Ronald McDonald House supports families of seriously ill children by providing them a place to stay while their children are hospitalized or receiving treatment at local hospitals. Members of our Legal, Compliance and Human Resources departments held a team building event at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House last April. The teams had the unique opportunity to act as Guest Chef, where they prepared meals for the staff and all 45 families staying at the facility. The team was grateful for the opportunity to offer some small added comfort to those staying at the Ronald McDonald House during what is typically a challenging and emotional time for these families. Fund Investment Team In lieu of a holiday gathering, our Fund Investment Team decided to celebrate the season by donating their time to the Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory in Conshohocken, PA. The Cradles to Crayons organization provides essential goods to children aged 0-12 in the Philadelphia area, including all the physical goods that children need to be safe, protected from the elements, and ready to learn. The Fund Investment Team spent the afternoon sorting children s clothing, checking for quality and organizing the clothes by gender, size, and type. Hamilton Lane has participated in several philanthropic events with Cradles to Crayons, and together we have helped to send children to school ready to reach their full potential.
Hong Kong Team Last fall, employees from our Hong Kong office participated in a local volunteering event with the Crossroads Foundation. This organization is a non-profit charity that uses the city s status as a global hub to bring together those in need with those who can help. To achieve their goal, the Crossroads Foundation accepts a variety of goods such as clothing, home appliances and electronics, which are then distributed globally to individuals, families and community organizations in need. During the event, the team was divided into groups to help out with a variety of tasks from sorting and processing donations to packing and organizing shipping containers. That day, the Hong Kong team helped prepare a record-setting number of items for shipment that would be distributed globally. The team continues to work with the Crossroads Foundation on a variety of initiatives. San Diego Team Last summer, team members from our San Diego and San Francisco offices came together to participate in a clean-up event with I Love a Clean San Diego. The team spent the day picking up trash at the La Jolla shores beach, helping to enhance the beauty of their local environment. ILACSD offers a broad range of expertise in environmental education program design and implementation. The organization works to promote regional awareness of environmental issues, including resource conservation, waste reduction and recycling, community enhancement, and pollution prevention.
