Women s Prison Association Corporate Partnerships

So why should your corporation consider supporting a local non-profit? Because consumers believe it is important for companies to address a full range of social and environmental issues; and more customers believe companies should prioritize support in their local communities. 2

According to the Cone Echo Global CR Opportunity Study, not only do consumers expect businesses to put their resources to work for change, but they want to participate: 94% of consumers are likely to switch brands to one that supports a cause if both brands are similar in price and quality. 93% would buy a product associated with a cause; 65% have already purchased a cause-related product in the past 12 months. 3

So why choose WPA? The number of women in prison has grown by over 800% in the past three decades. Over 200,000 women are in prison and jail in the United States, and more than one million are under criminal justice supervision. 4

When women come to WPA, they rarely communicate needs related solely to their criminal conviction. 5

Who is WPA? Founded in 1845, WPA is the nation s first organization to assist women with criminal justice involvement. Each year, thousands of women and their families access WPA services in New York s jails, prisons and at three community sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Today, WPA s mission is to partner with criminal justice-involved women and their families so they can lead safe, productive, and lawful lives in the community. We believe that in a limited-resource environment, our interests and values are best served by helping women address the range of factors that put them at risk for continuing criminal justice involvement drug use, untreated mental illness, unemployment, and poverty in the community, where they have the richest opportunities to practice doing things differently. 6

What does WPA do? WPA helps women: Reunify with children Find safe and affordable housing Connect with addiction, health, and mental health services Access HIV testing, education, and prevention services Learn household budgeting and daily living skills Gain peer support from other women through mentoring Support women as they achieve their educational goals Prepare for job interviews and obtain employment Comply with criminal justice mandates and remain crime-free Advocate for public policy change to produce better outcomes for criminal justice-involved women, their families, and communities 7

How to partner with WPA WPA is ready to work with your corporation to create unique partnerships that would meet our needs and your philanthropic interests. Financial Partnerships General operating contributions For the day-to-day operating costs of a specific program or to support the general work of WPA. Program specific contributions Choose from one of our three service clusters; Re-entry and HIV, Children and Families, or Advocacy and Leadership. Payroll deductions Employees can make regular contributions to WPA through payroll deductions. Employee matching gifts Did you know that 65% of Fortune 500 companies (and many others) match employee donations? Demonstrate your corporation s philanthropic character by matching payroll deductions or gifts made by employees. $500 sponsors a field trip for 15 kids. $1,500 funds a month of WPA s JusticeHome alternative to incarceration program for one participant. 8

Sponsorship WPA s primary fundraising event is our annual benefit. Corporations are invited to sponsor the event at multiple levels of giving ranging from $1,000 to $25,000. Sponsorship benefits may include: Access to event Acknowledgement in the benefit program Name acknowledgement on all event material Recognition included in all publicity Special recognition at the event A special appreciation gift from WPA Website recognition Alternatively your corporation may prefer to sponsor a field trip or special event at one our community sites. Field trips: Arts and crafts studios Visit the zoo, aquarium, museum, or theater Special events: Valentine s Day Mother s Day Halloween Thanksgiving End of year holiday Above: Kids from Huntington House on a field trip to the Painted Pot. Huntington House is WPA s homeless shelter for criminal justiceinvolved women and their children. 9

In-kind Support Donated products Toiletries and beauty products Household items Toys for children School supplies Computer equipment and software Non-perishable food for our food pantry Fresh food for client orientation Donated equipment New or gently used furniture, office equipment, and appliances. Facilities and office space Does your corporation have access to professional printing services? Or perhaps meeting rooms and event space? Does your workplace have unused Microsoft Office Suite licenses? WPA needs software for client computers for job searches, financial literacy, and resume building. Left: Thanks to generous donations from the Advanced Institute of Study in Princeton and the National Cristina Foundation, we were able to upgrade the computers at our East Village location. 10

Volunteers WPA offers a variety of ways in which corporate volunteers can contribute to our work whilst enhancing your corporation s image and strengthening employee morale. Lifestyle: Teach a financial literacy workshop Provide income tax assistance Teach yoga or meditation Become a WomenCare mentor to a woman in prison Employee Volunteer Days: Nominate WPA for your corporation s community day of service. Pro Bono Assistance: Apply your corporation s specific skill base to provide pro bono assistance (for example, free graphic design, marketing, legal, tax, or accounting advice). Above: A volunteer from Deloitte selects plants for the garden at Hopper Home, which has served as a residence, alternative to incarceration and administrative office for WPA since

Corporate Partners Corporate partnerships allow WPA to dedicate critical funds to programs that help criminal justice-involved women and their families lead safe, productive, and lawful lives in the community. We would like to thank the following corporations that have helped make WPA s work possible. Donates discontinued lines, samples, and products where packaging has been damaged. Volunteers provided complimentary makeovers for moms on Mother s Day. Teaches financial literacy to moms at Huntington House, our homeless shelter for criminal justice-involved women and their children. Capital One also provides fiscal sponsorship. Provides Corporate Volunteers and Sponsorship. At Hopper Home, volunteers gardened, reupholstered furniture, and assembled toiletry kits for women. Provides Corporate Volunteers and Sponsorship. Deloitte donated a Nintendo Wii to the kids of Huntington House and volunteers repainted the shelter and prepared a home cooked meal for residents. 12
