1 First Ladies Luncheon Project C.U.R.E., the largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing nations around the world, would like to invite you to partner for the 2017 Project C.U.R.E. First Ladies Initiative. In September 2017, Project C.U.R.E. will host a First Ladies luncheon in Denver. Launched in 2006, Project C.U.R.E. s First Ladies Luncheon is a fundraising event that brings awareness to the humanitarian efforts of First Ladies from around the world. Distinguished guests join together to learn about healthcare issues in the First Lady s country and raise funding to deliver life-saving medical supplies and equipment to the most underserved hospitals and clinics throughout her country Project C.U.R.E. First Ladies Luncheon September 25, 2017 The Hyatt Regency Denver Convention Center In 2016, Her Royal Highness Margaret Kenyatta spoke of the healthcare challenges faced by the people of Kenya and her support of initiatives to improve maternal and child health. Combined, Project C.U.R.E. First Ladies Luncheons have raised enough funding to deliver a total of $19 million worth of medical relief to hospitals and clinics throughout Papua New Guinea, El Salvador, Belize, Mexico, Ghana, Panama, Tanzania, Kenya, Mongolia and Mozambique. 3 Table Hosts are critical to the success of the First Ladies Luncheon, as they provide the energy and support that drives relief efforts to the First Lady s country. Since 2006, this event has provided $19 million dollars worth of medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics throughout El Salvador, Belize, Mexico, Ghana, Panama, Tanzania, Mongolia, Kenya and Mozambique. By hosting a table, you help further our mission of delivering health and hope to hurting people around the world. There is no cost to attend the luncheon, as the event has been generously underwritten by our generous sponsors, so that every dollar raised delivers desperately needed medical supplies and equipment to woefully ill-equipped healthcare facilities in Zambia. Please remind your guests that it is a fundraising event, so an ask will be made during the program. In conjunction with the First Ladies Luncheon, Project C.U.R.E. hosts an exclusive V.I.P Reception prior to the luncheon to welcome the guest of honor. There will be approximately 150 guests in attendance including local community leaders, luncheon sponsors, and table hosts. This is an opportunity for the First Lady to meet the guests and speak with them personally at an intimate reception. As a Table Host, you and a guest are invited to attend this exclusive reception. Only in the Valleys of the Zambezi and Luangwa is there excessive heat, particularly in October and, in the wet season, there is high humidity. POPULATION: 17,244,233 (2016 est.) POLITICS: Democracy with executive, legislative and judiciary branches SIZE OF COUNTRY: Zambia, in southern Africa, is a landlocked country of rugged terrain and diverse wildlife, with many parks and safari areas. On its border with Zimbabwe is famed Victoria Falls indigenously called Mosi-oa-Tunya, or "Smoke That Thunders plunging a misty 108m into narrow Batoka Gorge. Spanning the Zambezi River just below the falls is Victoria Falls Bridge, a spectacular viewpoint. Zambia is 290,587 square miles in size. ECONOMY: Zambia is one of Sub-Saharan Africa's most highly urbanized countries. Zambia had one of the world s fastest growing economies for the ten years up to 2014, with real GDP growth averaging roughly 6.7% per annum, though growth slowed in 2015 and 2016 to just under 3%, due to falling copper prices, reduced power generation, and depreciation of the kwacha. Zambia s lack of economic diversification and dependency on copper as its sole major export makes it vulnerable to fluctuations in the world commodities market and prices turned downward in 2015 due to declining demand from China. Despite recent strong economic growth and its status as a lower middle-income country, widespread and extreme rural poverty and high unemployment levels remain significant problems, made worse by a high birth rate, a relatively high HIV/AIDS burden, and by market-distorting agricultural and energy policies. POVERTY: Poverty in Zambia is widespread 64% of the total population lives below the poverty line, and 42% of those are classified as extremely poor. In rural areas, 83% of people live below the poverty line. HEALTH CONCERNS & LIFE EXPECTANCY: High rates of HIV play a role in exacerbating poverty in Zambia. Approximately 14.3% of adults in the country have HIV and 1.5 million children are orphaned as a result of the disease. Poor healthcare coupled with disease and hunger have led to an average life expectancy in Zambia of just 51.8 years the fourth-lowest in the world. HEALTH SYSTEM: There are two ministries in health care delivery: the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health that provide information pertaining health and deliver health services. In 2015, public expenditure on health was 5% of GDP, among the lowest in southern Africa.
