Annual Conference Events o Workshop: Behind the Scenes of Scientific Publication and Critical Review (Saturday, October 25 th, 1:00-5:00pm) Help graduate students with critical review, 1 st time publishing for grad students, what journal, how to respond to comments. What if your advisor doesn t lead you? Get support and help to get through process. Would like to continue in future. Reviewer/mentoree program be a 3 rd reviewer, submit, get feedback on process. Ask Matt for more details. Good for your CV. o Student Reception (Saturday, October 25 th, 6:30-8:00pm) o Student Development Working Group Meeting (Sunday, October 26 th, 9:30-11:30am) o Symposium: Strategies of Successful Student Chapters: Recruiting, Engaging, Involving, and Promoting (Sunday, October 26 th, 8:30am 12:30pm) o Student Research-in-Progress Poster Session (Monday, October 27 th, 8:30sm 5:00pm) Good reason to get funded by university. Over 140 posters accepted. Top 3 posters awarded for each grade level at student professional mixer. o Student Professional Mixer (Monday, October 27 th, 6:00 10:00pm) Last year = speed dating. May be different this year. o Student Leadership Breakfast (Tuesday, October 28 th, 7:00 9:00am) RSVP to Mariah Simmons. 90 so far. Student chapter of the year give presentation. Get ideas on what they implant, what works, etc. dealing with student chapter advisor if they are un-involved. o Discussion Panel: Uncertainty of an Undergrad: Navigating the Maze of Employment and Career Opportunities (Wednesday, October 29 th, 8:30 10:10am) Panel of professionals answering your questions of how to apply for jobs and what to do after graduation. 3. Dues increase o Approved: from $5 to $7 o Money planned to be used for additional travel grant: 1 for graduate and 1 for undergraduate students. Will not see until Jan 1 st

SDWG Marketing o Student communication network discontinued saved money ant put into travel grants, workshops, etc. (~$200/ year) o s to students Maybe more frequent Monthly minutes? o Looking for better ways to communicate o Student chapters not connected with national. Why? o Recent grads scholarship? Folks who are in between school and jobs o Member Input: Send to members Message box when registering, algorithm so when registering it provides suggestions for WG s to professors to mention TWS in class, suggest requiring TWS national membership as part of class, remember people are not all wildlife (biology, forestry, natural resources) o Member Input: Need more contact from SDWG about who we are, using social medial more o Andy Little: provide incentives for joining Facebook (or other social media) o Wes Boone: contact university department secretaries to send out bulk s 2. Committees o Awards judging for student presentations and posters purchasing Amazon gift card o International liaison between international student group Hoping to develop exchange program student to work with professionals in other countries and come to TWS national meeting Promote international involvement we are a national society July 2015 co-hosting international meeting in July with Mammalogists hoping to have 200 NA members Connect with Mexican schools via border schools (NMSU, UA, etc.) provide memberships, get students to state meetings o Newsletter Student Chronical Right now mostly officers Would like to involve students more to practice publishing Can be about interests, researchers, etc. Need someone to format, collect, pictures, etc. Use Spatial Telemetry WG newsletter as template Get posted to new TWS website running banners Ideas Get guest articles then encourage joining TWS or WG

5 WG descriptions Student chapter updates Section updates o Website Running TWS page, links, and biographies for officers, workshops, etc. 3. TWS Certification o A lot of work o Does it matter? Who recognizes it? o Many are not advertising it because it is not a department policy, BUT they prefer it once looking at it o For AB, hard to find CWB to sponsor you o Need to communicate better with student chapters, advisors, counselors on what is included 4. Workshop ideas o Publication one people and guest lecturers like o Have ideas?? Need to submit in January o Introduction to R combine with Biometrics Brett Collier LSU has great intro stuff in the meantime Doing 4-day MARK upcoming 5. Other Thoughts o Have student reps for each region work with state chapters and council reps o Reminders from SDWG president o Invite student advisors to SDWG Reminders 1.
