1 January 2015 The Source Document President s Message Hard to believe it is January And we are already over half way through January! I want to thank Donna Vincent, our fellow IIA member, for presenting on 2014 federal and state tax updates. Donna has worked for MDU Resources for 9 years and part-time for H&R Block - 18 years preparing taxes. As a chapter, we have experienced great attendance to our monthly meetings, seminars and workshop. This past month I was pleased to receive positive comments about this year s chapter program implemented by the officers and board. I too am pleased with the content of the meetings and other educational opportunities provided by the chapter. But I found myself wondering at the last meeting, how do we accomplish information/knowledge sharing of best practices on specific audit topics among our members? I had a chance to speak to a few of you about this question. I propose we hold a couple of working sessions where we share ideas and best practices on specific topics. Please me at Dawn.Sackman@MDUResources.com if you are interested and what topics you would be interested in. So far, I heard interest in: 1. Audit Universe Risk Assessment 2. Audit planning process 3. Operational Audit Approach We will evaluate the level of interest to determine if and when we hold these sessions. Please let me know if you have interest in hosting/leading a session. Also, remember that we are doing officer elections at our February meeting. Please let Kim Reinke know if we should add your name to the ballot. I began as an internal auditor with the Bank of North Dakota in I completed the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) in Currently, I am an Internal Auditor at the North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (NDPERS). I have been an active member in the Central NoDak chapter since 1993 and have held the position of Vice President and served on various committees. 2. Why did you become a member of the IIA? I became a member of the IIA to network with audit professionals and for training opportunities. 3. What are some of your greatest successes or contributions? Helping others improve processes and build internal controls to ensure that the organization achieves their strategic goals & objectives. 4. Most recent book you ve read. Recently read Disney s Frozen to my niece. 5. Tell us something most people don t know about you. I was in the Miss North Dakota pageant during college. 6. If you could have a superpower which would you pick? Superwoman! 7. Most unusual or interesting job you ve had. I worked in the Director s Office of the Memorial Union at NDSU. It was fun walking around campus putting up posters of upcoming events. 8. Family, hobbies. I have a daughter that just turned 14 that takes jazz, ballet, pointe and tap dancing. I love to watch her performances. I enjoy Bison football games, baking & shopping.

Lisa Grabar obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from Dickinson State University.
