As you can see, many hands are at work behind the scenes, but none of their efforts and are worth their time if we do not have new candidates. That is where each of us play an important role. So, a very special THANK YOU to all the Brothers who seek out and bring in new members to our valley; your efforts are greatly appreciated and do not go unnoticed. 6 6 Pasadena Scottish Rite Bulletin Pasadena Scottish Rite Bulletin 7 Language Center News May is Better Hearing and Speech Month!!! This month speech and hearing specialists across the nation endeavor to raise awareness about communication disorders and promote treatment that can improve the quality of life for those who experience problems with speaking, understanding, or hearing. Eight to nine percent of children suffer from speech disorders and many parents wait too long to seek treatment. This month is the perfect time for parents to learn how to recognize the early signs of these disorders through the Identify the Signs campaign, a national effort of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The campaign is designed to combat an overall lack of awareness about communication disorders a major barrier to treatment for the more than 40 million total Americans who suffer. Speech, language, and hearing disorders are among the most common disabilities in the United States. However, unlike many other disabilities, these disorders often are reversible and even preventable with early intervention. Unfortunately, many parents do not recognize the first signs of these disorders. In young children, early treatment can help prevent them from falling behind academically, socially, and in other key areas at a critical time in their development. Each month, the Language Center helps some of the youngest children who demonstrate speech and language delays, giving them the push they need to perform at age appropriate levels later in life. This month the Center evaluated two children, discharged one child, and completed 92 hours of therapy for the 25 kids on caseload. We would like to say thank you to all those who so generously donate to the Language Center and allow us to continue to make a difference in the lives of children and families.
