Welcome. Welcome to Venue, the Young Adults Ministry of Covenant Church. On behalf of Pastors Stephen and Erika Hayes, we re so glad you re here. We realize that walking into a church environment for the first time can be like walking into a lunchroom and not knowing where to sit. Large gatherings can easily make you feel like you re just a number and our goal is to treat everyone like one big family. It s our mission to create environments for young professionals to encounter Jesus, unlock their potential, and find community. This booklet is designed to let you know a little bit more about our community of faith and how you can be a part of it. We re honored that you spend a few moments of your day getting to know us and we hope to get the opportunity to get to know you as well! Sincerely, Ryan and Amanda Leak, Young Adults Directors 5

Encounter Jesus. The goal of our services isn t to impress anyone. The goal of our services is to connect young professionals with the God that made them. We believe God has a strategy and plan for each and every person and we don t want them to miss it. We believe that a person s life makes the most sense when they ve had an encounter with Jesus. Our music and overall experience is designed to set a meeting between you and God to help you grow in your relationship with Him. 6

Unlock your Potential. The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the church in Ephesus, wrote, For we are God s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. The messages you will hear from the stage will always be geared to help you unlock that good thing God planned for you to do a long time ago. We want each and every person that walks through the doors of our gathering to maximize their potential. 9

Find Community. One of the worst feelings in the world is to be surrounded by hundreds of people and feel alone. Our small groups and events are designed to help young professionals build genuine and godly relationships. There s a lot of places people can go looking for friends, but our hope and prayer is that God would divinely connect with you with a group of people that help you grow closer to Him. 10

11

12

Volunteer. Serving is one of the easiest ways to find community and build godly relationships. It s also a practical next step to help you discover your own purpose. If you d like to get plugged in more, we host volunteer rallies throughout the year that can be found on the service calendar at the end of this booklet. One of the frequently asked questions about serving is: Do I have to be a member at Covenant Church to serve? Nope. But members of Covenant have more access and ability to serve in higher capacities. At Covenant, we believe everyone has a next step in their journey with God. We ve designed our church experience to help you do just that. Go to covenantchurch.org/nextsteps to learn more and check out one of our volunteer rallies soon and we d love to connect with you more about you getting plugged in. 13

Serve your City. Serve Your City is Covenant Church s local missions outreach program that gives people an opportunity to give back to their community. Each month we post opportunities for you to feed the homeless, serve at a soup kitchen, help underprivileged children, and work with other various non-profit organizations throughout the DFW area. The opportunities can be found on our facebook page at Venue Dallas or covenantchurch.org/serveyourcity. 14

WHAT HAPPENS AT A SMALL GROUPS MEETING? You ve probably seen small groups meeting and not even realized it. A small group looks like friends at lunch, teams playing basketball, or people studying a book or topic of interest. At its core, a small group is a small gathering of people, and it is less about what you do and more about who you do it with. By participating in small groups, you can expect to connect with others through a common activity, engage in life giving conversation and request prayer. How often does a small group meet? Our small groups meet for three semesters a year winter/spring, summer and fall. During the semester, most groups meet twice a month. Small groups are meant to bring meaning and community into the flow of your life, so even if you can t attend every meeting, there is still great value in joining a group. Where do small groups meet? Small groups meet in places like homes, parks, restaurants, coffee shops and office buildings. The leader of the group selects a meeting spot that best fits the purpose of the group. Small groups happen throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. 32

How long does a typical small group stay together? Most small groups meet for a semester. This way, new people can join groups easily and regularly. Also, the semester format allows you to try multiple groups each year. As relationships form, some groups choose to stay together for consecutive semesters, but new members are always welcome. What if I don't like the first group I try? The truth is, not everyone will find the best fit with the first group they try. This is why we encourage you to select a few groups that interest you, contact the leaders and try out a couple different groups before choosing the best one for you. The simple strategy to finding success in small groups is to not give up. We believe there is a group that is right for everyone including you! IS there childcare available? Childcare varies from group to group. When you search our directory for a group, the group profile will indicate if childcare is available. 33
