2 Community Access News Page 22 Community Transport Residential Services Visiting Program (RSVP) Hello to all, Hi All,. Well Christmas is over and Easter Eggs are already in the shops. Not good for the diet. Thanks for those of you who filled in over the Christmas and holiday period. It s noticeable that the clients have started to use our services earlier into January than they used to. I hope you all enjoyed the Pancake night, it will be bigger and better next year. Maybe I ll even learn to make them round. With all this hot weather, (which I personally like), please make sure you take plenty of water with you and keep an eye out for fires. Tune to 774 on the radio. I spoke of diet s earlier, one of the girls friends got rid of 160 kilos of useless fat recently, she dumped her boyfriend. An oldie but a goodie just like me. It s a little late but welcome back to volunteering it is hard to believe we are 2 months into 2016 and March is here. Time flies and the weather fluctuates, one minute you have heat stroke and the next thing the heater is on. Activities and outings are back in full swing with RSVP volunteers happy to be back to the facilities, and of course the clients are happy to have us back as well, after a 6 week break. The residents really do miss the interaction with Volunteers on a Monday afternoon. Kallara residents have had Darryl and Barbs dogs Polly and Winston to visit. Residents love to talk to them and give them a pat, sometimes they spoil them with a biscuit from afternoon tea. The ladies are having nail polish applied by Margaret and sometimes the odd man as well. Facility outings have started back each week, these are done on a rotating basis around the 6 facilities. Hope everyone enjoyed the Volunteer Pancake night, it s nice to catch up with so many volunteers and partners at the one time in such a relaxed atmosphere. It is lovely to hear the chatter going on around the tables. Easter is just around the corner and will be here before we know it. It seems every year the supermarkets have hot x buns and Easter eggs in the stores from 1 st January, it seems so far away, but here we are only weeks away. Time flies when you re having fun. 3 Community Access News Page 33 Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) The recruitment drive for the 2016, has hit the ground running. I have been organising to match or rematch 12 new or established volunteers. There are always residents waiting for a visitor, finding a suitable match for each resident can take time as both the resident and volunteer individual interests and experiences are considered before matching. Thank you to all who came to the Coffee & Cake in January. It is wonderful that so many of us can get together. Please remember the CPR Basics - Information Session, 10th March - 9:30 start. If you know of anyone who is looking for some volunteer work and may suit the Community Visitors Scheme, please ask them to give me a call and we ll have a chat. Also, I have had new residents referred who are from German, Italian, Polish and Dutch decent, maybe you know a relative, friend or neighbour who may speak their native tongue, if anyone can assist please contact me. I will be on leave from 14 th to 29 th March. Peter and I will be visiting my father in Tweed Heads. It will be lovely to see him for the first time in 4 years, give him a hug and spend some time together. Please remember that No matter how busy you happen to be, There s always just time for a nice cup of tea! And even more enjoyable with a hot Cross Bun or two or three Dawn your CVS Coordinator From Max. I ve learned.. That there is nothing sweeter than sleeping with your babies and feeling their breath on your cheeks Answers from Jan Mount Kilimanjaro Do Care Welcome back to all our clients, it was great catching up after the Christmas break. We are now noticing the brightly coloured Easter Eggs in the shops, they all look yummy, guess we can all indulge for a special time like Easter. Our bus trips have been down a little on numbers, maybe the extreme heat is keeping some away. Sometimes due to the heat we will be cancelling some outings, cannot be helped but I am sure you all understand. The Coffee and Cake afternoons are enjoyed by all that attend, clients have their choice of where they go so it makes for a fun afternoon. To the new clients I am sure you will enjoy your time with us and join in with the fun we have. To the volunteers I am sure you all enjoyed the Pancake Evening it was a big success, thank you for all you do with visiting and assisting on the Outings and with Nibble and Natter. From Des and myself have a great Easter and enjoy the goodies that will be delivered.
