7 Community Champions Workshops (3hrs) Anyone working or volunteering in their community, who would like to learn more about domestic/sexual violence and how to spot the signs. Anyone with limited/no knowledge of domestic or sexual violence, wishing to learn more. The course will be of particular interest to those with no prior knowledge of DV/SV, those working or volunteering in faith groups, community groups, local support groups, youth work etc. None. 8 Understanding Domestic Abuse (1 day) DVUDA This training provides basic awareness of the issues around domestic violence and abuse. It gives an overview of the impact and how to recognise signs. The course will be of particular interest to those who work in children s or adult s safeguarding, education, housing, health, alcohol or drug services, citizen s advice, or local Victim Support To be held Wednesday 2 nd May 2018 County Hall, Glenfield Wednesday 16 th May 2018 Tuesday 3 rd July 2018 Tuesday 16 th October 2018 Thursday 24 th January 2019 Wednesday 20 th March 2019 NWLDC, Coalville This course enables delegates to build confidence and develop essential skills to: Recognise & respond to the signs of domestic abuse Understand the barriers faced when asking the question and managing a response to a disclosure Identify a victim s level of risk using the DASH risk checklist Refer a victim to a specialist domestic violence service or MARAC so that they can receive the right support On completion of the course, delegates will be able to: - Recognise and understand the signs of domestic abuse - Develop the confidence and practical skills needed to appropriately respond to victims of domestic abuse - Learn how to refer domestic abuse victims to the most relevant local services Page 16 of 28

18 Child on Parent Abuse (1 day) DVCOPA This one day training increases an understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships between children and their parents. It looks at identifying adults at risk and barriers to disclosure. The course will be of particular interest to those who work in adult safeguarding, social work, health, citizen s advice or local Victim Support To be held Thursday 26 th July 2018 Wednesday 26 th September 2018 Wednesday 5 th December 2018 NWLDC, Coalville To increase the understanding of why children and young people use violence towards their parents To increase the understanding of children s and young people s use of violence. To increase the understanding of how domestic violence can impact on the parent/carer when a child has perpetrated violence against them Look at the specific risks and barriers a victim may have when dealing with this type of abuse To increase the understanding of the types of interventions for children using violence Page 18 of 28

20 Sexual Violence Awareness Training (1 day) SVAWARE This half day sexual violence awareness training aims to increase participants understanding on how to identify and respond appropriately to victims and survivors of rape, sexual assault and abuse To be held Monday 30 th April 2018 Wednesday 12 th December 2018 To develop an awareness of the dynamics and magnitude of rape, sexual assault and a brief insight into rape trauma syndrome To recognise the myths and realities faced by victims and survivors of serious sexual assaults To be able to recognise the reactions to rape and sexual assault To recognise and understand some of the challenges and barriers faced by some groups of survivors Develop confidence and skills when dealing with disclosures of rape, sexual assault and abuse Have an awareness and knowledge of local and national support services Page 20 of 28

21 Domestic Violence within BME Communities (1 day) DVBME This one day training increases an understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships between victims within BME communities. It looks at cultural or community factors and gives an understanding of barriers to disclosure. The course will be of particular interest to those who work in adult safeguarding, education, health, citizen s advice or local Victim Support To be held Thursday 20 th September 2018 Wednesday 16 th January 2019 To identify and increase understanding of domestic abuse in BME communities To identify barriers to accessing support To increase understanding of how to protect victims of domestic abuse from within BME communities Page 21 of 28

22 Stalking & Harassment (1 day) DVSANDH This one day course is suitable for frontline professionals who come into contact with victims of domestic abuse in their day to day work. It looks at the links between domestic abuse and sexual violence with stalking and harassment and how to identify signs and risks. The course will be of particular interest to those who work in adult safeguarding, health, alcohol or drug services, citizen s advice or local Victim Support. 23 Introduction to working with perpetrators (1 day) DVPERPS This training is suitable for professionals who through their work, need to have an understanding of how to effectively engage DV perpetrators in changing their behaviour, such as social workers, health visitors, family support workers and those that work in the criminal justice system. Participants should be working currently with families/couples where DV is prevalent and have already attended Understanding Domestic Abuse and/or DASH risk assessment training To be held Wednesday 9 th May 2018 Wednesday 22 nd August 2018 Thursday 21 st February 2019 County Hall, Glenfield Participants will be able to: Identify eligible/suitable clients for a perpetrator programme and be able to make a referral to the Jenkins Centre Understand how the Jenkins Centre fits within the wider provision of DV/SV services Understand how perpetrators use power and control in abusive relationships Develop skills in effective questioning and interviewing techniques for perpetrators of DV Know and develop ways of responding to perpetrators in the best interests of victim/child safety Understand which factors contribute to increased risk for victims and children Page 23 of 28

26 DV/SV Local Service Offer (1/2 day) DVSVOFFER This half day course is suitable for anyone who wants to increase their knowledge about the broad range of domestic and sexual violence services that UAVA provide across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to victims/survivors, children, perpetrators and professionals. The course will focus on referral routes in to UAVA, how to complete a referral, how services aim to meet the needs of whole families and what practical tools practitioners can use to protect and support victims of DV/SV such as Domestic Violence Protection Orders and the use of disclosure schemes such as Clare s Law. None. This course is aimed at all professionals who want to increase their knowledge about UAVA services. 27 Perpetrator Basics (1/2 day) DVPERPBASICS This half day course is designed to increase knowledge, confidence and skills in being able to talk to perpetrators of DV in a safe, motivating and effective way in order to assess suitability for a Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programme. The course will focus on do no harm principles and aims to allay practitioners fears about doing the wrong thing, whilst focusing on keeping victim safety at the heart of all our practice. Participants should have a basic knowledge of DV and have at least attended basic DV training. Participants should NOT attend this course and the Intro to Working with DV Perpetrators training. This course is ONLY suitable for practitioners who will come into direct contact with perpetrators in their daily work such as social workers, probation officers, family support workers etc. To be held Wednesday 25 th April 2018 Monday 16 th May 2018 Wednesday 25 th July 2018 Wednesday 24 th October 2018 Wednesday 23 rd January 2019 Wednesday 13 th March 2019 COUNTY RUTLAND Participants will be able to: Increased understanding and skills in being able to safely talk to perpetrators about their abusive behaviour Increased understanding about do no harm principles and victim safety Increased understanding on the suitability of perpetrators to attend a Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programme Page 27 of 28

28 Understanding Dual Perpetration in Intimate Partner Relationships (1 day) DVDUALPERP This full day course aims to increase participants understanding of the variations of violence and abuse in intimate partner relationships such as primary perpetration, dual perpetration, victims who use violence etc., in order that safe assessments of the nature of the dynamics within abusive relationships can be made. Participants will learn about the most appropriate interventions with couples and families that will decrease risk and increase safety. This course is only suitable for practitioners who have undergone prior domestic violence training and will, as part of their work, come into contact with families where domestic violence is a prevalent issue. To be held Wednesday 5 th December 2018 Wednesday 13 th February 2019 Participants will be able to: Increased understanding of the typologies of domestic violence including dual perpetration, situational couple violence, primary perpetration and victims who use violence and the application of these to case studies Increased knowledge on how to safely talk to and assess clients where both parties are using violence.
