3 Page 3 Spring Clusters Thank you to all the presenters and participants that attended the 2017 Spring Clusters. We had approximately 58 people in attendance at each of the courses. A special Thank You to Jim Small for all your hard work in implementing these clusters. Ethics CPE Opportunities The TCOSCPA is committed to providing quality continuing education to it s members. There will be several opportunities for Ethics CPE coming this fall. Join us in October and November at the CPE clusters and Spin sessions available for members to meet their ethics requirements. More details to come. Young Accounting Professionals Conference Join young accounting professionals from around the Tulsa area on Wednesday, July 26 at the Marshall Brewing Company. Gain insights into how leadership and failure work hand-in-hand and increase your ability to negotiate effectively to leverage your ideas. Past speaker for the AICPA's EDGE conference, Joseph Rugger, CPA, CGMA, will explore how successful leaders make use of their failure by responding and rebounding. He will also equip participants with the major factors of negotiation, including a step-by-step plan to negotiate agreement without giving in. Attendees can also stay for the "perfect pair" networking session after the CPE sessions, which is sure to tap into your taste buds. Each event is recommended for three hours of CPE credit and is a valuable resource for all new CPAs who wish to make connections and build their leadership skills.

4 CPA Run Update and Crime Prevention Network Fundraiser It is with great sadness that we announce that we have organized our last CPA Run. With the loss of financial and logistical support from two of the presenting sponsors, we are unable to arrange a 5k run. Over the past twenty-three years, we have donated over $150,000 to the Crime Prevention Network (formerly the Citizens Crime Commission). We thank all of the sponsors and participants for their long-lasting support of this event and are sorry we aren t able to continue the tradition of finishing the run on the 50 yard line of Skelly Field at the H.A. Chapman Stadium at TU. Many great memories were made at previous runs, including many of our fellow CPA s racing to be the fastest CPA. In lieu of a run to raise money for the Crime Prevention Network, we would like to announce a summer fundraising drive. Over the years, the CPA Run was the main source of revenue for their popular Crime Stoppers program, so they are really feeling the budget crunch. We will be accepting donations at the monthly CPE Luncheons as well as through the mail. Please make checks payable to the CPA Run and mail to: CPA Run 1241 S Tamarack Ave. Broken Arrow, OK All donations received through August 31 st will be presented to the Crime Prevention Network in September and will be greatly appreciated. Please join us in supporting this worthwhile organization which helps to make Tulsa a safer city. Spin CPE Sessions Coming This Fall Due to the popularity of the Spin CPE Sessions at the beginning of the year, the TCOSCPA will host five additional CPE Sessions this fall; including opportunities for ethics CPE. The sessions are tentatively planned for October and November, more details to come.

5 MEMBER HIGHLIGHT Every month the Tulsa Chapter turns the spotlight on a member who is making an impact in their professional accounting field and around the Chapter. These members exemplify the mission of the Tulsa Chapter of Oklahoma Society of CPAs in their professions and communities. If you would like to nominate someone to be featured please contact Deanne Nunn at ydnunn@cox.net. June 2017 Highlight Sherri Wise Tulsa Chapter Member since May 2013 What was your first job after passing the CPA exam? I was working for H. G. Martin, Jr. CPA in Midwest City while preparing for the exam and was fortunate to continue at the firm after passing. I worked primarily in taxation and with several not-for-profit clients. It was not long, though, before I moved to Tulsa where I took a year off to get settled and complete the Leadership Tulsa program. At the end of that year I was hired by Lohrey and Associates where I continued working in individual and corporate tax until making the transition to the not-for-profit sector. What type of accounting do you do? I left public accounting in 1993 to take an interim position as Executive Director of Special Olympics Oklahoma, an organization that I d served as a volunteer since the early 80 s. After three years I was recruited to the Osteopathic Founders Foundation, following their sale of Tulsa Regional Medical Center, as the President and CEO. Amazingly, after twenty years, I m still in that position and excited about the opportunities that we have to serve our community and our profession. How do you give back to the community? After nearly thirty years, I still coordinate the medical teams for Special Olympics summer and winter games in Oklahoma. It s an organization that s hard to leave! As a member of the American Heart Association s Circle of Red, I enjoy the chance to collaborate with like-minded women who are dedicated to influencing change in the community regarding heart health of women. I was recently reappointed by Governor Fallin to the Oklahoma Science Technology Research and Development Board which is the governing body for OCAST, Oklahoma s technology based economic development agency. As part of my responsibilities to that organization, I also have the honor of chairing the Oklahoma Seed Capital Fund Advisory Committee which serves our state by investing in the early stage development of Oklahoma entrepreneurs. Page 5 What do you do in your free time?

6 MEMBER HIGHLIGHT Cont. June 2017 Highlight Sherri Wise Tulsa Chapter Member since May 2013 stage development of Oklahoma entrepreneurs. What do you do in your free time? That s the hard question. I like my work so it sometimes occupies much of my free time. I do enjoy travel though, both domestic and international, and I m trying to remind myself to take more time to do that. I have a little addiction to searching for great airfares! I do have a couple of guilty pleasure television shows; Scandal and House of Cards. I m in withdrawal when we re between seasons! How do you benefit from you Tulsa Chapter membership? I m embarrassed to say that I m not a very active member! But I always enjoy the interaction with other accounting professionals when I m able to participate. Working outside of a traditional accounting role, I particularly appreciate the Chapter activities and newsletter for helping me continue to feel connected with my profession. Page 6
