The meeting was opened by the APRC Secretary-General, Mr Michihiro Ota. - APRC started with 3 associations JMRA, CMRA and KORA, then Australia joined; now 9 associations and now we belong to GRBN that links 34 associations together. - Ota-san extended his thanks on behalf of the entire APRC and GRBN to KORA for hosting this 4 th APRC conference. - New Zealand is the newest member of APRC and Ota-san welcomed Winifred Henderson from NZ who is representing the two peak associations there- MRS NZ and AMRO.

2 Cindy from KORA then welcomed delegates to Korea and wished them a pleasant and informative stay. Mr Ota invited Peter Harris from AMSRS and GRBN committee member to chair the rest of the GRBN meeting. Peter acknowledged and thanked Mr Kim and his team for their organisation of this conference. GRBN Overview: Peter introduced and welcomed GRBN representatives from the USA and UK - Diane Bowers and Kevin Menk from CASRO and Barry Ryan. Peter advised that aim of GRBN is to support and grow local research associations. About helping each other at a local level and cascading up to a global approach. GRBN has only been operational since the beginning of 2012 and in this time we have grown to a 34 strong association network. GRBN operates as a committee, there is no one is in charge. Decision is agreed to by consensus. Peter presented some slides on GRBN that included the GRBN committee. His presentation is attached at Appendix A. Kevin provided some information about the ARIA federation and Barry about the EFAMRO federation. GRBN 34 slide - 34 associations in 33 countries research businesses - 30 billion in annual research revenues (USD) GRBN guiding principles - national associations are in the best position to represent, support and address changes in the legal environment for their members Autonomy, collaboration, common standards, respects, development GRBN is not a new association buit a collaborative network there are no fees, no bank accounts, no legal entity, collective of 3 regional associations, no one in charge, no hierarchy. Key point to GRBN is that is uses a bottom up approach on maximising effectiveness at the national and regional level based on strong and effective national associations. GRBN initiatives update: We have had 3 face to face meetings one in London in March; one in Miami in April and now one in Seoul. EFAMRO: are responsible for the area of standards and self-regulations. Barry gave a quick update on their progress: 1) They have created a comparison of codes of conduct - US, AMSRS, Germany, UK, and Canada - 5 different codes of conduct. Identifies where there are key differences between the codes which is useful for members working across countries in different regions. Barry recommended providing this document to all members of our associations as a useful tool. There is a CD in the GRBN pack that includes a copy of this document. This code

3 comparison document is a work in progress document. Barry requested that if an association has a code of conduct (in English) that wants to be included, please send it to Barry and he will add it to the comparison. 2) Self-regulation is a European project that EFAMRO want to share it with GRBN. Next week you will receive an invitation to attend a meeting in Berlin on self-regulation, No fee for the conference. ARIA: is responsible for the future of research study and the state of the industry survey. Diane gave a quick update on their progress: 1) ARIA is made up of 10 national associations that have a focus on business. ARIA has started doing a state of the industry survey for ARIA members to understand what the trends are across the associations - e.g. Brazil. They do this quarterly and it could be a useful tool for all the associations in GRBN to do. GRBN is looking at starting this next year. 2) The Future of Research study is done by Cambiar consulting company and it is done from a client perspective. The Future of Research study has been conducted amongst clients in the USA and we are looking at expanding this to ARIA and APRC and hopefully EFAMRO. GRBN is currently looking for sponsors who can assist with the financial costs of conducting such a global study. APRC currently has 3 potential sponsors. APRC: is responsible for an events calendar and resource warehouse. Elissa provided an update on the activities undertaken so far: 1) We have been collecting profile information from all 34 associations so that we can put this on the GRBN website 2) We have also been compiling an events calendar that includes all the major events (particularly conferences) happening in GRBN associations. This will be on the GRBN website in the next few months. 3) The GRBN resources warehouse includes new resources developed by the GRBN committee and existing resources from associations in the GRBN network. The CD we have provided today is the first step in compiling a list of resources for members of GRBN associations to benefit from. This resource warehouse will be housed on the GRBN website. Strategic issues for GRBN 1) Impact of ESOMAR s corporate membership initiative Peter stated that GRBN wants to work collaboratively with ESOMAR there are some issues we can work together with them and some issues that belong with national associations. We hope to meet with ESOMAR in November to discuss areas we can work with together. We are all interested in promoting research globally. At their recent Congress, ESOMAR launched corporate membership. Up until now it has been an association of individuals. National associations traditionally can be trade/company associations or professional associations for individuals and some do both (like MRS). ESOMAR is now a possible destination for companies to give their fees to. This means it is important that national associations show their value to members so that members will choose them. It is important for self-regulation reasons that members belong to their national associations. It is difficult to make effective representation to governments without support of members.

4 Andy advised that ESOMAR can never know the local market as well we do. Most companies need a local association in China. China companies cannot afford to pay ESOMAR membership or conference fees. To be a member of GRBN - you will need to be a member of the local regional federation. Peter stated that we are trying to work collaboratively with ESOMAR and that we will keep members up to date with the outcome from our meeting with ESOMAR in November. Peter then asked each association for their comments and feedback on GRBN. NZ Winifred advised that NZ is isolated from rest of the world and the local associations are very important. They have small association membership fees and it is a very small industry - everyone knows each other. GRBN means they will have the ability to access information globally. This is particularly helpful smaller players who don t have access to global information like the larger companies do. Martin - MRSS - Treasurer, MRSS will provide this very useful. Regional advice will be very beneficial. Will make use of this platform in future, had to work hard to keep core members, We have managed to retain them - reshaped their work. We hope to add value back into GRBN. Japan - Thank you for opportunity - JMRA has a history of more than 40 years. They work globally but have only had access to resources from ESOMAR in past. JMRA appreciates the relationship with APRC and GRBN. Thailand - TMRS never had a conference before. Hosting APRC next year is an honour. They feel more confident that we have more friends now - we can work together. Theme of the conference is "Sense & Sensibility - the hybrid of success". Important to share our collective wisdom. Malaysia - APRC was not an easy sell but APRC is in touch will local needs. The reduced fee structure helped. The MRSM like the framework of collaboration. ESOMAR fees to participate are very expensive. Content not relevant of ESOMAR conferences. APRC filled a need. MRSM are excited that the network has extended beyond Asia. MRSM is trying to retain membership of its local members GRBN gives a platform to add value. CMRA Mr Liu advised that it is good to meet old friends and new friends at APRC. APRC and GRBN is a good effort it is worth CMRA investing their time in it. Companies need partners to collaborate in China and outside China. Network has provided partners. Happy to see that the spirit of APRC continues with more service to members. Diane from CASRO advised - businesses are changing dramatically. There is now more demand on national associations to be flexible with new methodologies. Companies are moving to new technologies, social media. Local national associations are more important than ever. Chinese Taipei Ben advised that CMRS work with China and have conferences in Taipei and China. They hope to do more with APRC and GRBN. CMRS advised that they hope in the near future that they can donate what we do in data mining in crowd computing. Peter thanked everyone for their participation and the meeting closed at 1.15pm for the APRC/ GRBN lunch.
