2 Bernie s Buzz Our Guest speaker at last meeting was Phil Witten who gave a very informative talk on electronic surveillance of water supplies for large properties throughout Australia. At next week s meeting I would like the principals of Community Service.-.Michael Stubbe, Youth Bob Irving, Fund Raising Committee.Brian Bamford to establish their projects for the forthcoming year. If all of the above could ensure that the Rotarians in their group will be in attendance at next week s meeting please. I have targeted these specific committees as many Rotarians are on various boards. Next month other committees will be requested to focus on their commitments. I spoke to the DG 1900 John Glassford today to confirm October 18 th for his visit to our meeting in order to accept our cheque for the Farmers Drought Relief. On 15 th October 2018 at 4pm there will be a community working bee at Amaroo and Euroaville facilities located at 36 Weir Street. The project is to clean both facilities. The Shire has requested our assistance to cook a BBQ for all the workers who attend the clean up project. The Shire will provide the food and pay us to cook the BBQ. At next weeks meeting we will require teams for the BBQ at Show and Shine which is on 7 th October Please advise Michael Stubbe at this meeting the times you may be available.

3 Phil Whitten is pictured with John King Thursday Night s Meeting Chairman John King opened the meeting welcoming everyone and surprising all by giving details of and proposing a toast to the Rotary club of Dallas, USA. The main reason for this toast was revealed to be that Dallas is the home town of Collingwood s star in the preliminary final - Mason Cox. Well done Kingy! President Bernie welcomed visitor Lisa Duggan and guest speaker Phil Whitten and reported the excellent results from our fundraising for the drought relief that has reached $8300. Our DG will be attending a meeting on October 18th to discuss how it is distributed. Bernie also announced that we will be running the barbeque at the Show and Shine and also the Melbourne Cup Calcutta on the night before the cup at the Memorial Oval. Chairman John then introduced the guest speaker for the night in Phil Whitten who gave a very interesting insight into how modern technology can make life so much easier for farmers. Phil runs his business - Farm Monitoring Solutions from his office in Railway Street Euroa. He explained how with the internet and GPS and mapping software enabling him to provide a range of remote monitoring solutions that are compatible with a wide range of products that can assist farmers in monitoring water troughs, bores, fences, stock and even soil moisture from an app on their phones or their computer. He gave examples of large properties in remote areas that in the past would have to drive 750 kms to check on their stock watering locations that can now have updates on the water levels every few minutes. Phil's business is a great example of how a national and even international business can be run from a small town.

4 Euroa Secondary College Polish Program Euroa Secondary College has been successful again in securing support for Beacon Foundation s Polish Work Readiness Series program for 25 students, in help for transition from school. They have requested 4-5 Rotary members to participate in activities and attend the networking lunch which provides students with a valuable opportunity to develop connections with local people and hone the newly acquired skills learnt over the course of the morning in a real world setting. The details are as follows: Date 16th and 17th October At Euroa School House on the 17th and elsewhere TBD in Euroa on the 16th. 12:30 to 2:30 including lunch. This is the same program that some of us participated in last year.
