Box 121 ATHELSTONE SA 5076 Secretary Tim Mee THE COG - RCM Meeting 1667 Bulletin 11 April 2018 President s News Good turnout of members for the Club meeting on Wednesday and very positive feedback about the presentation from Rose Clayton, the student co-supported by RCM for an amazing journey on the sailing ship the One and All. In fact, the Club can be proud of the great work done by Youth Director, Sabrina Koetsier and members of the Youth Committee during the past 9 months. In her report this month, Sabrina has highlighted the following youth support and community participation still to come for RCM members: RYPEN: 3 applications received. HuiSi Yee, Seriani and Bronte Mead will be sponsored by us. Youth committee has interviewed them and they will be attending the program April. Service Above Self Award: Marcello and Jaqcui (Principal) came and spoke at club. Keen to continue this project in 2018 and have recipient speak again at club. RYDA: Dates have been booked with Norwood/Morialta High School and the ARC Tuesday 24 th and Wednesday 25 th July. RCM Members required as Day Managers, guides and catering staff for the two-day event. Please check your diary. Paddle-Prix trailer: Confirmed participation with Rotary Club of Norwood (RCN) on this project. As well as greatly assisting the Norwood/Morialta High School community, signage on the trailer will identify the support given by RCM and RCN. RYWELL: Cross over between community and youth program. David Koetsier and Peter Mayer will organise an orienteering morning at Thorndon park for the young participants for the RYWELL program (children in care). Details to follow but club members required on the day. Another huge community event for the 150 th Campbelltown Council Celebrations happening on Saturday 14 th April. If you haven t already contacted Graeme Packer to place your name on the roster please do so now as assistance is still required. Also, the RCM Golf Day, fund raising event on 12 th April, contact Paul Haylock for details. Good to see so many RCM members and friends attended the IT classes now being organised at the Campbelltown Library for our Club and friends, to update their IT knowledge and skills. The presence of so many Rotarians having fun together has been noticed by library members and others, with enquiries about how to join our Club. Thanks go out to Judy Cushway for her commitment to the development of the new Morialta Club Membership Brochures which look fantastic. Well done Judy! Any feedback will be well received for future editions. Finally, for all those who missed the very successful Rotary Conference in the Barossa recently, our President Elect, Paul Haylock and P.P. Brenton Summers have combined to bring you a report of the highlights (see elsewhere in the CoG). Page 1

2 The April Board meeting will be held on Tuesday 10 th April, at the Community Shed, Athelstone, with many items for discussion and reports from Directors against our strategic plan Minutes will be available from the Club Secretary for any member who requires a copy. Looking forward to welcoming you to Rotary on Wednesday night at the Rezz 6 for 6.30 pm. As it is a committee night its a great opportunity for catch-up and further planning as well as fellowship with great friends. Committee Meetings at Rezz on Wednesday following Board Meeting. Club News APOLOGIES for weekly meetings to Djuro Rakic or KIOSK Brenton Summers is now the go to person for the kiosk float bag. An update on the training that Campbelltown Library is providing to our Club. Our first session was incorporated within an already planned public event run by Marty. Originally this was planned as an exclusive event for the members of our club tasked to set up our files and storage requirements onto a google drive. Although the session was fairly basic for the members who attended, there will be an exclusive session on Tuesday 17 th April to in the Library IT room also with Marty and several volunteers. The members involved are Judi B, Peter M, Graeme P, Paul H, Judy C. If any other member is keen to be involved in this session please let me know. We will call it SET UP GOOGLE DRIVE so there is no confusion. Our second session was exclusive and run by Charlotte and Hashir who are students from UniSA doing community service placement for their own courses. Charlotte is studying physiotherapy and Hashir Accounting. They are very enthusiastic and patient. They couldn t do enough for us and we all had some fun while creating a nice Rotary presence in this environment. They showed us how to logon to several websites which have a variety of tutorials that can be done at home. There is a charge for the public use some of these sites but the library has paid to provide us free access. Charlotte, Hashir, Marty and Ali Smith (training coordinator) have been given access to our club facebook private group and have left messages and Alison has posted the links to these sites, some photos too. 4 Next week: Tuesday 10 April there is a public session called UP IN THE CLOUD which is run by Marty. As it is a public event we need tickets, I already have 7 tickets but I don t want to keep them unless they are needed. If you and/or your partner would like to attend this one please let me know by 4.00pm Friday so I can cancel any not required. I already know that Graeme P and myself will be attending. Wednesday 11 April will be our second session with Charlotte and Hashir in the Library IT room, we will be looking at facebook but we can have assistance with other issues as well. Members and partners welcome to attend. No tickets required for this event. Meanwhile, if you require any further IT assistance, ie new phone etc. The library offers walk-in assistance every Monday, Wednesday and Friday Library staff and volunteers are there to assist, no need to book. Hope this isn t too confusing. This is a great opportunity for our club to have fun and be a presence in the community. Wear Rotary shirts if you wish.
