If you are unable to attend the one in the deanery you worship in, please feel free to attend one of the other sessions. Following the delivery of Safe Church training for Clergy, we are now beginning to roll out the training to Parish Safeguarding Coordinators. This training will be tailored to your role and the crucial work you do to safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults. Liz Tibbatts Provincial Safeguarding Support Officer will deliver the training and you will be trained alongside Safeguarding coordinators from other parishes within your deanery. 4 Bereavement Care Awareness will be taking place in Fairwater on Saturday, 5 November 2016 Commencing 10am finishing at 4pm Attendees will need to bring a packed lunch. Churches have told us that they can sometimes struggle to support bereaved people because of a lack of information, resources and training. In response to this, we ve developed Bereavement Care Awareness, a special one-day seminar to help churches equip leaders and pastoral workers. The course is delivered by trained facilitators and will help you and your church better understand the needs of bereaved people and how you can support them. If you re interested, or think your church might be interested, please contact the organiser for more details: Julie Davies or julieddavies@churchinwales.org.uk or, if you want to book a place please contact: Briony Davies or brionydavies@churchinwales.org.uk You can find more details about the course at 4

7 Positive Parenting Courses Bringing up children can be very rewarding but also a challenge at every stage, and every age, and parents may struggle to find appropriate advice just when they need it. The diocese is pleased to be able to offer a range of research-based Positive Parenting Courses written by Care for the Family and delivered by trained facilitators. These courses are not for problem families but for any parent who wants to explore how to be an even better Mum or Dad. Courses are generally delivered over a 6 week period and last for 2 hours each week. The sessions include group discussions and practical tasks to help you build on your strengths and give you time and space to think about any changes you want to make. A helpful, easy to read handbook is included with each course. Specific courses available are: The Early Years This brings together Mums and/or Dads to look at building healthy relationships with their babies, toddlers and pre schoolers and develop learning through fun and play. The six sessions are designed to help you negotiate the early years with confidence and build strong family relationships for the future. Sessions cover: expectations and realities of parenting, children s needs, play and listening, parenting styles, discipline and safety and the wider family. The Primary years focuses on children from 5 11 years. This course helps parents look at how to support their child as they start to find out how the world works, learn how to manage their feelings, find out what they re good at and experience the consequences of keeping or breaking the rules. The Teenage Years There are 7 sessions in this course which cover emotional needs, why being a teenager is tough, parenting styles, communication, handling conflict, the big issues and building strong families. How to Drug Proof your Kids. This concentrates on the important role a parent or significant caregiver can play in reducing the risk of harmful drug use. It gives you the skills and knowledge to help your children to make good choices. During the six sessions, sharing ideas with other parents and carers is a key element. Discussions are based around real-life scenarios. Quidz in - raising financially confident kids. This gives you the knowledge you need to talk with your children about money from an early age on key areas including saving, borrowing and planning ahead. Handling Anger in the Family This is a four session course to help you and your child understand, recognise and handle anger safely and healthily. Anger can threaten family life. Heated words, unresolved arguments, fights and an uneasy home atmosphere can cause families to lose trust in each other and drift apart. If you would like more information about holding one of these courses in your parish please contact: Julie Davies or juliedavies@churchinwales.org.uk 7

10 Living and Learning is a bi-lingual resourse produced by the St Seirial Centre which we are now able to offer here in the Diocese of Llandaff. It is made up of five modules: A Church for the Future This module explores what it means to belong to the Church in Wales at a time of change and development and asks questions about our future mission. It allows participants to explore the story of their own faith, the meaning of discipleship, the story of the Church where they are and to begin to reflect on how that story might develop in the future as the world and church change. Living Scripture This module explores how God is revealed through the scriptures and examines ways in which God s Word can speak most effectively to us and our church today. It is designed to introduce students to the benefits of studying theology in an accessible way and its relevance to their faith. Called by God This module explores what it means to be called by God and asks the question: What is God calling us as a church and me as an individual, to be and do in the future? Leading Worship This is a module that is designed to help those people who would like to become more involved in leading worship. It is a six session course and it will enable participants to develop their skills as worship leaders in their local churches. Pastoral Visiting This module is designed to help those people who would like to become more involved in pastoral visiting. This module aims to provide you with a basic understanding of all that is involved in pastoral visiting and to enable you to reflect on your own experience as a visitor The Journey The Journey is a group for 16 to 30 year-olds who attend Anglican churches, schools, or chaplaincies within the Diocese of Llandaff in the Church in Wales.
