MOPS ATTRIBUTES Segment: MOPS Attributes Sherry Surratt, President and CEO, MOPS International MOPS International encourages and equips moms of young children to realize their potential as mothers, women and leaders, in relationship with Jesus and in partnership with the local church. Hospitality Welcoming to all women Leadership development Inspiring toward a faith journey Mentoring Discussion Questions How will your group provide a welcoming atmosphere? How can your group better reflect the community you live in? How do you encourage moms to grow in their leadership? How can you plan for conversations that inspire moms toward a faith journey in your meetings? How do you help moms take their next step towards Jesus? How are your MOPS Mentors leading the way in your group? See more about these attributes at mops.org/leader/the-mops-experience
THE COLOR QUIZ Segment: The Color Quiz: Understanding Your Personality and Understanding Personalities on a Team Miki Kellerman The Color Quiz Workbook is available for download at mops.org/leader/color-quiz containing the quiz and quiz results. Have leaders complete the quiz, then give each participant crayons or squares of paper matching her top two colors to display during the video and discussion. Understanding Your Personality Discussion Questions What color are you? Based on the colors of your team, have each person share a strength they see in another team member. How can you encourage each other to use your strengths? Understanding Personalities on a Team Discussion Questions As a team: What would you like for others to say about your Leadership Team when you aren t listening? Look at the colors of the leaders around you. What do you notice about the wiring in our group? What do we have in common? What areas might we struggle with? For our group: What is the current culture of our group? Use just one or two words. What would you like for others to say about our group when we aren t listening? Homework: Commit to thinking through your colors, reading through your notes and then consider your life word or verse. NOTE to Leaders: Follow up on the homework assignment during upcoming Leadership Team meetings, asking one leader to share at each meeting.
CELEBRATION AS A SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE Segment: Celebration as a Spiritual Discipline Ryan Paulson, Lead Pastor, South Fellowship Church, Denver, Colorado God commands festival far more than he commands fasting. Nehemiah 8:8 12 Celebration is always intentional. Celebration is always lavish. Celebration is formative. Celebration is sacred. Joy is the serious business of heaven. - CS Lewis Discussion Questions What was the last thing you celebrated? What was the best celebration you ever participated in? How can we invest in intentional celebration in our group? Think beyond birthdays and babies. What can we REALLY celebrate? What can we do to cultivate strong friendships around our table? What do we need to focus on so we become a group characterized by strong friendship, intense joy and lavish celebration?
BRIDGING CULTURES Segment: Bridging Cultures Raleigh Washington, President and CEO, Promise Keepers How do I reach out to new moms especially moms who aren t just like me? Everything grows out of relationship. Be Committed. Be Intentional - Purposeful, positive and planned. Be Sincere - A willingness to be vulnerable. Be sensitive - Gain knowledge to relate empathetically across racial, social, and economic lines. Be sacrificial. Find the commonalities. Challenge: Reach across lines into neighborhoods around you to make a difference, because those moms need MOPS. Discussion Questions Do the members of your group reflect the community around you? Think about who you invite to MOPS. Think about your specific leadership position. Think about how your group functions (greeters, speakers, hospitality, décor, fundraisers, activities). Now, list ways your group can be more: Intentional Sincere Sensitive Sacrificial How can you, individually and as a group, take up Dr. Washington s challenge and reach across lines into neighborhoods around you to make a difference?
SOUL CARE Segment: Soul Care Sherry Surratt, President and CEO, MOPS International As you watch the video, answer these questions as Sherry asks: How do I feel at the end of the day? How do I feel about my relationship with God? How do I feel when I m praying or having a quiet time with God? Do I feel like God is on my side, working on my behalf? Discussion Question How is it with your soul? Give God the time and space and he will answer you. Find Sherry s ebook Flourish: The Four Essentials Every Leader Needs at mops.org/lead-with-flourish
This year at MOPS, may we become a home for found wanderers, redeemed prisoners, explorers at the edge of their comfort all of us who were one-time captives now celebrating our unearned freedom because we have regained the eyes to see. May this year unfold into radical expressions of your own unique Fierce Flourishing.
