2 President's Message ACSC update. A few weekends ago several of us attended the 2017 Summer Workshop in Concord, NC. The event, hosted by the Lake Norman Shag Club drew a sizable crowd and capitalized on the theme, Hot Summer Nights. Danville Shag Club has been a member of the ACSC (Association of Carolina Shag Clubs) since the mid-90's and it's standing continues to be one that proudly represents the association's purpose which in part states,...the goal of the A.C.S.C. is to promote and preserve the heritage of beach music and shag dancing, to inform its members of beach music and shagging activities... DSC is well known as the Friendly Bunch and we openly promote shag dance in our area and throughout the region. Dennis Brumble, President of the ABSCDJ'S (Association of Beach & Shag Club DJ's) was Saturday's guest speaker. Brumble gave an interesting presentation about the birth, mission and future of the association. Some of our local DJ's are members of this group. Of its 255 members, 186 are from the Carolinas and another 28 from Virginia. If you are interested in learning more about the association, they have a website and Face Book page. Google abscdj.com The TIP OF THE HAT for this month goes, without a doubt, to Membership Chair, Cathy Rutledge. All of you who attended the REUP Party at 2 Witches know why she has received this nod. I didn't really think it was possible to top last year's membership party with its big crowd and lots of food and fun; however, I have learned to never underestimate a woman on a mission. This year the event was held inside due to the extreme weather conditions, the hors d'oeuvre and main tables were beautifully presented and the use of both event rooms was comfortably spacious as we ate, danced and socialized the night away. Thanks to Cathy's vision, the work of her committee members and the music of our Vice President, DJ Gil Bradley, we had a great turnout of some 90+ happy members and guests. You can't beat it. Our REUP has passed but we still want you with us. If you let is slip by, please send in your dues. We offer complimentary events as well as timely updates throughout the year. Newsletters, s, robo and personal calls are used to keep you informed and all for $20 after July 31. Golf Tournament Charity Giving. Our July board meeting was attended by reps from four receiving charities. Each organization shared the purpose of their program and a few stories of those in need. It was moving to hear of people in such extreme situations and how these charities are helping. Tournament Director, Dennis Rutledge, issued funds to the Danville/Pittsylvania Cancer Society, Haven House of the Dan River Area, God's Store House, and the area Meals On Wheels Program. A rep from Kids and Cops will be with us in August. It was a rewarding time for our club and especially those who contributed and/or worked on the project. We have pictures for a news release - stay tuned. August 4 & 11. Santanas is booked on both Fridays, therefore, we will not dance on these nights. We will be back on the dance floor August 18 and 25 with DJ's George Hundley and Mike Harding. I want Thank you for attending this summer. We have enjoyed good numbers for the past several months. It's just fun getting a lot of us together...its just fun. Join in. SOS is nearing and Fall Migration always entices us to North Myrtle Beach. Seeing our members gather at the different clubs is a special occasion. If possible, try to come down for a few nights. If you get down for the bands on FUN SUNDAY and FUN MONDAY do not forget that this entertainment is funded by the sale of Fun Monday Tickets. Where else can you hear this much good beach music for the price of one $10 ticket? Plus you have the chance to win some big money. The grand prize is $7,500. After expenses, all funds raised go to charity. Everyone wins! Ask for a ticket. See you on the dance floor. Ernie Holcomb

3 DSC Members Get your Fun Monday tickets Contact Ernie Holcomb The Fun Monday drawing was started as a way to finance the events of Fun Monday. The drawing generates the income that pays for all the activities. There is no charge for people to attend the events of Fun Monday. It only takes you $10.00 to make you eligible to be in the drawing. The first ticket drawn wins $7,500, the second wins $2,000, the third wins $1,000, the fourth wins $500, and the fifth and final ticket wins $ 250. After all the bills are paid there is a donation made to Caring For Kids which is the chosen charity for the Fun Monday Enhancement Committee. The Caring for Kids charity is a great organization that helps a lot of kids. There are 100 tickets dispersed to each shag club that attends the A.C.S.C meeting at the spring S.O.S. The representative that receives the tickets then takes the tickets back to the club for the members to buy or sell all the tickets. The monies will be deposited in the shag club treasury. The sales period is October 1, 2016 thru September 1, If you would like to keep the SOS cards to sell though out the year, you may do so under the following conditions: You must send a check to SOS and the data form to Wanda Cavin, SOS Secretary, prior to Mid-Winter...Deadline January 6, 2017 Spring Safari...Deadline April 1, 2017 Fall Migration...Deadline September 1, 2017 (please return all unsold cards) Danville Shag Club Members. I need suggestions on different ideas for group SOS picture this September. That is amazing!!!! The Shaggers of tomorrow!!! Juniors Shaggers A great representation of the future of the dance! Presenting the 2017 Junior SOS junior shaggers! Hello everyone! We the board members of the Junior Shag Association hope you all are doing well. We are excited about Junior SOS for In 2018 we will host the 27th anniversary of the biggest and greatest junior dance event in the world. The dates for Junior SOS 2018 are July 17th-22nd, The headquarters will once again be the O.D. Beach and Golf Resort. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to have the resort serve as our headquarters for Junior SOS. Our association is so blessed to not only have the resort to use for Junior SOS but we also have the opportunity for our kids to dance in the great clubs that we as adults get to dance in North Myrtle Beach. 7 As usual, there was wonderful fellowship, music, food, and dancing for all to enjoy. Thank you to all that helped to make this event another big success. Thanks to Susie Bradley for capturing these Memories and Gil Bradley for the Great Shag Music The 2017 membership party was held on July 22 at 2 Witches in Danville. One of the hottest and most humid days I can remember. Thanks to Ethan at 2 Witches, we did not have to suffer the oppressive heat. From the positive comments about the party, I think everyone had a good time and I hope everyone got enough food, drink and dancing. For those who could not attend, there's always next year. I want to recognize my commitment members that help to make it all possible: Marilyn Rigney (new member),ginger Robertson, Bernie Newton, Mike Eppard, Mo Beckner (new member), Dennis Rutledge, Patsy Holcomb, Betsye Gilley and Ernie Holcomb (our pres. that always helps with everything). A GREAT BIG THANK YOU!! Our member roster has 112 members as of July 31. Twelve are new members and we want to welcome them to the Danville Shag Club.
