I must say, we were all dedicated members and guests!! The 50/50 drawing of $47.00 was won by Paula Lanier. David Sessoms was our DJ and as always, David did a great job. Dixon Ivey and I attended the required ACSC meeting for the 2018 Mid-Winter Workshop on Saturday, January 19th at the O.D. Resort Ballroom in North Myrtle Beach, SC. For those of you that do not know, ACSC stands for Association of Carolina Shag Clubs. When a Shag Club is a member of the ACSC, there are required meetings that a representative of the Shag Club has to attend. A lot of good information is discussed during these meetings that can be brought back to the Shag Club board meeting. There are 93 Shag Clubs that are members of the ACSC and 3 more newly formed Shag Clubs are making an application to join. ACSC was started in 1984 and will be celebrating their 33 year anniversary this year. It was announced in the meeting that in 2017, the total number of SOS cards sold was 13,199. It was also announced the SOS parade will be on Saturday, April 28th starting at 1:00. The theme for this year s parade will be Blast From The Past. Our membership is 75 and we need to get our membership back up. If you see a past member, please invite them to come back or if you know of a prospective new member, please invite them to come join us. We need to come up with some ideas of ways to raise money for our Shag Club. If you have an idea, please come to the board meeting and share it with us or contact Gordon Hester or Greg Price. We discussed at the last Board Meeting about having another Golf Tournament to raise money for Southeastern Hospice. If you would volunteer to chair this event, please contact Gordon Hester or Greg Price. Please mark your calendar for a date change for Shag Club. October will change to the second Friday night, which will be October 12th. So, our March dance and October dance will be held on the second Friday night. We still need volunteers to sign up to work the door. You are only asked to work it for an hour. Remember, if you work the door, you don t pay the $5.00 fee to get in. Our next dance will be Friday, February 2nd with Gene Sistare as our DJ. Hope to see all of you there with your dancing shoes on and bring a guest! We are based in the Lumberton, Robeson County, North Carolina area, but our shagging membership extends many miles in each direction. Our purposes are to enjoy beach and shag music, Carolina shag dancing and fun with friends. Guests are always welcome to attend our meetings and events. As you find out more about shaggers, shagging, and our shag club, you will want to join our group. Come early and enjoy dinner from their menu. *** See page 5 for alternate directions. Shag Dance Lessons Great News!! Jesse L. Davis and Sandra Smith are teaching shag dance lessons. Classes are held on Monday evenings at the Pine Street Activity Center. New classes will begin the first Monday of each month. Thanks to all who brought donations of food to benefit the Church & Community Center Food Bank. All donations are always greatly appreciated. Canned meat, soups, canned meals, fruit, rice, pasta, any non-perishables and juices are always needed.
