The newsletter is the primary form of communication with our families. This year you should have received a copy of the year calendar. This is a good outline of events for the year but will be updated often. The current and next month calendar will be sent home with the newsletter to advise you of any changes. Our Facebook page will be used to celebrate our students achievements and for reminders. We do not guarantee that all information will be put on social media so please look out for notices. If you have any questions you can call us, send an to Pakenham.cs@edumail.vic.gov.au or if you prefer, you could inbox our Facebook page. We would really encourage you to speak to us about your concerns or suggestions so we can deal with them promptly. The car parking around the school is not ideal for such a big school community. In order to keep our children safe and to prevent parking fines, I ask that you keep the bus zones and the 5 minute drop off zones clear. I also ask that all parents consider the parking arrangements opposite the school. There have been some occasions where parents have been unable to leave the carpark due to other cars blocking them in. We are working on having the parking bays marked to prevent this happening in the future. I have contacted VicRoads this week and asked that they once again extend the green light at the Duncan Drive lights. This should clear the traffic more quickly and allow cars to flow more easily in the afternoon. I will continue to work with the Cardinia Shire Council to achieve the safest system for our students. Keeping in mind the safety of everyone in our school, I ask parents to remind their children that bikes and scooters must not be ridden in the school grounds. They are to be walked from the gates to the bike shed in the morning and walked back again in the afternoon. This week we had the pleasure of announcing our House Captains and Vice Captains at assembly. We have far more girls in Year Six than boys and very few of the boys decided to nominate themselves to be a captain. I honestly believe that we have a wonderful group of young leaders who will ensure that PCS continues to be the very best it can be.

4 Fundraising News Hot Dog Day We are looking for helpers for our upcoming Hot Dog Day on Wednesday 7th March Please note that there will be no other lunch orders available on this day however over the counter sales will still be available. Sticky Beaks Fundraiser Reminder that orders are due back by Friday 9th March Please note there is a sample on display in the Administration office. PCS Community Group This group meets every second Friday at 2.00pm in the OSHC building for any parents who would like to be involved in helping out around the school and getting to know other parents within the school community. All welcome to attend, meetings are very informal and the next meeting will be Friday 2nd March Children are welcome. PCS Fundraising Committee Anyone who would like to be a part of fundraising for our school are welcome to attend our next meeting which will be Friday 23rd March 2018 at 2.00pm at OSHC. The children have expressed their desire for a running track around the oval so we will be fundraising throughout the year to help us achieve this goal. Keep an eye out on how you can contribute and help us reach this goal sooner. All ideas are welcome.

5 Wellbeing News Hello from PCS Wellbeing Team. Old habits die hard in the last newsletter I told you all that we can be found in the Community Hub, our building is now called the Wellbeing Centre so you may have been walking around looking for the wrong building sorry. BUCKET FILLERS The Bucket Filler Program is our school s number one social skills program that promotes using your words and actions in a positive way. Kelly is busy visiting every class this term to promote the program with our students and staff so please support us and this very important program by having a conversation with your child using question such as; Did you fill a bucket today? How did you fill a bucket today? Did others fill your bucket today? How could you fill a bucket for someone tomorrow? ** Bucket Filler language is** - A Bucket Filler is someone who is kind, caring, friendly, helpful, polite etc. A Bucket Dipper is someone who is disrespectful, rude, mean, unkind etc Filling a Bucket is when you use your words or actions in a positive way to make someone feel good. Dipping into a bucket is when someone uses their words or actions in a negative way and make someone feel sad. Putting a lid on it means closing the lid of your bucket so negative words and actions can t hurt you. If you would like more information regarding this Program please contact Kelly. **Please note** The Community Notice Board is situated on the window of the Wellbeing Centre (breakfast club window). This board contains information on any groups and services that are running within our Community.

6 Wellbeing News Feeling Is Thinking Dear Parent/Guardian, We will be running Feeling is Thinking in Term Two and Three here at the school. This program is run for Year Three to Six students (depending on numbers). We would like to offer this group to your child / children in your care. We will be running this group during school time at the school. The group is to assist children with their relationships and in expressing their feelings. This group is facilitated in small groups (no more than eight children) and focuses on issues such as exploring feelings, strong emotions: what do they look like, what things make people angry, managing anger, taking risks and practising changes. Feeling is Thinking runs for eight weeks and each session is for one hour. The group concludes with a Celebration session. Feeling is Thinking will be facilitated by myself and Kelly Dow, our Primary Welfare Officer. If you think your son or daughter (or child in your care) would benefit from Feeling is Thinking we would encourage you to talk to him / her about this. Should you decide that they would like to participate please return the reply slip to myself as soon as possible. There will be a $10.00 fee for this program to help with the costs of the journals that your child will receive. Once your child has been placed into a group you will receive a confirmation letter and a request for payment. Please do not send payment until you receive this request. Pakenham Consolidated School are pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those who request to be involved. 8 Wellbeing Dear Parents/Carer, Seasons for Growth Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. At Pakenham Consolidated School we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively. We are therefore offering a very successful educational Program called Seasons for Growth. This Program is facilitated in small groups of up to eight children (with a minimum of four - five in each group before the program can run), at three different levels, Level One is for children in Years One and Two, Level Two is for children in Years Three and Four and Level Three is for children in Years Five and Six. The Program is based on research that highlights the importance of social support and the need to practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The Program focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem solving, decision making, effective communication and support networks. The Seasons for Growth Program is made up of a one hour session, once a week, over an nine week period. The Program then concludes with a celebration session. Seasons for Growth is facilitated by myself, and Kelly Dow our Primary Welfare Officer. We have received special training in the use of this Program. If you think your son or daughter, or child in your care, would benefit from Seasons for Growth we would encourage you to talk to him / her about this. Should he / she decide to participate please fill in the attached form and return it to me in the Wellbeing Centre as soon as possible. There will be a $15.00 fee for this Program to help with the costs of the journals that your child will receive.
