1 Sauk County Tavern League Minutes of the January 26, 2009 Sauk County Tavern League general meeting Thank You to Mike & your staff for your hospitality. Pull tabs are for sale before and after the meeting. Buy, Win, Support your league! The pledge of allegiance was said and the meeting called to order by President, Karen Legner. Welcome to all our new members and first time attendees. Remember, you can always find out more information about the TLW on the internet at tlw.org and more information about the 3 rd district at 3dtlw.com. The TLW Antitrust Statement was read again. We plan on doing this at least twice a year. Our first guest speaker was Snipe from C & H who gave a very fun and informative and useful presentation on tap beer and the tap beer lines. We should all be able to troubleshoot our own C02 problems now. Remember to have the dish soap handy. The second speaker was Tuna Frisch, one of our 3 rd district directors. He spoke on the upcoming Legislative Day and it s importance. The 3 rd district is providing bus service so that anyone who wants a ride can have one. We really need lot of people at this. We have a lot more issues than just the smoking bans. He also spoke on the TLW Health Insurance. If anyone has any questions about this, please call any board member for more information. Also, once again, someone was caught borrowing satellite service without paying for it as a business. They are getting sued. The TLW is not able to help with these types of issues. Treasurers report was accepted. Membership is now under 100. Any suggestions? Thank you for your membership. Remember we are the only organization fighting for the rights of the tavern industry. As always, please let Dean know of any leads or contacts. Thank you to each one of you for belonging. Remember to use the TLW business cards when out and about. Vote was taken on the holiday party. It will be Monday, February 23 at Wally s House of Embers. Please remember you can invite anyone along, but RSVP s are due at least by 2/16 so they can properly order food. Cocktails from 5 to 7. Music at 8. Kari will take care of this. The SCTL Member of the Year Award was presented to Dean W. in recognition of his endless dedication to our league especially considering he doesn t even own or work at a bar. Who knows how low our membership would be without him? CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU DEAN! Bids from the golf outing are still coming in. A presentation will be made at our next meeting. The Scooter Raffle needs to be finalized. We haven t gotten any bids from any Sauk County business that can give us a good deal. If anyone knows of a place to look, let us know ASAP.

2 The 3 rd District Pool tournament is coming up April Please try and get a team together. It is a fun time. We will also need workers. Sauk County is responsible for Friday night. A motion was made and passed to spend $125 to put a SCTL ad in the Outagamie Co. convention booklet. And a motion was made and passed to spend about $350 on a Wii game system for our donation to the convention. Delegates will be Karen, Brian, Dean, Cheryl and Mickey. From the state office: We received a Thank You from Operation Homefront. They collected $32,000. Calendar sales were down. Any suggestions? Football mania ticket sales were down unacceptably. They will be sold again next year, but they are looking into mailing them directly to each member. Convention is coming up, March 23 26, in Appleton. If anyone has any questions about convention, just call a board member. Convention is meant for everyone (YOU). There is a trade show that allows you to look over and price nearly anything you can use in your business. The meetings are very informative and there is also lots and lots of fun. Sauk County will pay for your registration fee (or reimburse you if you don t pre-register). TLW has supplied us with a pre-written Letter to the editor explaining our current situation in this declining economy. They would like us to sign it (as a business owner) and send it to our local papers. Editing it in any way is acceptable. If anyone gets it published, please let us know. It is really easy for us to get bad press, lets create our own press. We will be having a convention meeting, Mon. Feb. 9 at Quindt s, Baraboo at 1:30. You are all invited to attend. We will try and have as many of our vendors there as possible to get their input. Eventually, we will be needing you to help us. 4 Sauk County Tavern League Hello. It is time once again for my annual request for your charity information. QUESTION: What s one way to get good press? What s another way to get legislators to vote in favor of legislation that affects us and our business? ANSWER: Create our own good press, tooting our own horns. And what better way to do this, than to let everyone know of our good deeds. Specifically our donations to charities. It s time know to collect this information so that a press release can be created that says Sauk County Taverns gave $x,xxx,xxx.00 to x,xxx charities in We ll send this information to our legislatures and ask them, if you keep creating more laws that decrease my business, I m going to have to cut back on these donations. And then where s this money going to come from? We all have charity donations. We donate a bottle here, a hat & t-shirt there. We buy their raffle tickets and we donate cash. We provide a place for them to hold their events. So now it the time to toot our own horns and say Hooray for us! Please take some time and think about all the donations you ve made in the last year and jot them down. (If you have non-cash donations, please convert them to their cash value for this report.) May is National Tavern Month and a state-wide press release will be created. Let s have Sauk County well represented. (Last year s report only showed Sauk County donating approx. $70,000 I know we do more than that with over 100 members!)
