4 Trust in SenSura double-layer adhesive SenSura is engineered to give your patients confidence by its protection and skin care layers. People living with a stoma (ostomates) are very much concerned with the security and skin friendliness of an ostomy bag. The Ostomy Skin Study 1 found that 4 out of 10 ostomates has skin problems. Skin erosion and maceration are two main causes for their skin problems. If the adhesive erodes very easily, there will be no skin protection and results in skin erosion. If the adhesive does not absorb skin moisture very well, it will cause maceration due to excessive skin moisture. However, increased absorption to avoid maceration would tradeoff with the erosion resistance to protect the skin. Most of the traditional adhesives cannot overcome this dilemma. Classic adhesive dilemma There are 5 key adhesive parameters in a classic adhesive dilemma: Flexibility Tack & Adhesion Ease of Removal Erosion Resistance Absorption Circle of Security SenSura overcomes this dilemma and optimizes the 5 important parameters to provide a circle of security by its double-layer design. EASE OF REMOVAL The strong cohesive polymer in the patented adhesive mix holds the adhesive to stay intact. The adhesive can be removed in one piece without any pain and residues. Absorption Skin care layer leads excess moisture away, preventing maceration. EROSION RESISTANCE The primary reason for peristomal skin problems is caused by the stomal output 1. So, the upper layer adhesive is thicker and more erosion resistant. Both layers of adhesive absorb moisture and swell. They seal around the stomal wall to protect the skin from stomal output. ABSORPTION Absorption of excessive skin moisture is mainly done by the lower layer adhesive. It contains more skin friendly hydrocolloids (e.g. CMC) and increases the absorption power. According to the Ostomy Skin Study 1, efficient absorption increases skin friendliness in peristomal area and avoids maceration. 2

6 Improved filter in all SenSura open and closed bags The unique pre-filter catches output and prevents them from entering the carbon filter causing blockage. The carbon filter removes unpleasant odors. A membrane above it prevents leakage or water from getting into the filter. Thus, the filter keeps the air flow intact and avoids ballooning. The recess in upper plate indicates how to fold and seal the outlet securely. An extra velcro dot under the soft front holds the outlet in position during the wear time. 12 Unique Swiss Roll adhesive in Alterna Alterna series has closed bags, open bags, urostomy bags, pediatric and post-operative bags for different needs. To suit for ostomates with different needs, Alterna 2-piece baseplate, apart from its unique Swiss Roll adhesive, it has TERA and Curagard adhesive to match with different Alterna 2-piece bags. Alterna 1-piece products use Swiss Roll adhesive. For 2-piece products, ostomates can use Swiss Roll adhesive, TERA (Transparent Erosion Resistance Adhesive) or Curagard adhesive as their baseplate. Swiss Roll adhesive Alternating two different adhesive in a spiral structure to provide skin friendliness and security. White adhesive layer is an effective moistureabsorbent. It allows skin to breathe and maintains it at a normal ph value. Brown adhesive layer has high resistance to erosion that is for prolonged weartime. TERA adhesive Similar to Swiss Roll adhesive, but with an alternating colorless and brown adhesive layer. Potato starch was added to both layers for stabilizing moisture absorption and further prevents erosion. Higher cohesion power and more resistant towards stomal output during use. Curagard adhesive Absorbs moisture and actively prevents skin problems. Adhesive is thin and elastic that follows contours and movements of the skin. 9

13 Different Alterna baseplates for different needs Swiss Roll and Curagard adhesive are more suitable for colostomy and ileostomy. TERA adhesive is more suitable for urostomy or ileostomy.
