10 Non Starch Polysaccharides (NSP) and Oligosaccharides In soybean meal the NSP and oligosaccharides mainly are Pectins, Cellulose and α- galactosidose. Monogastric animals are unable to digest NSP and Oligosaccharides. Increase the water holding capacity of the feed.(osmotic diarrhea and reduced feed intake) Increase the viscosity of the intestinal contents.(reduce digestibility) Degraded by gas-producing bacteria in the appendix and colon.(bloating)
