2 SOUTHWEST ATHLETIC TRAINERS ASSOCIATION DISTRICT 6 Overall Learning Objectives for SWATA 2016 At the conclusion of the program, the participant should be able to: 1. Describe an athletic trainer s value for high schools, emergency care techniques, sports medicine course information, and common ethical mistakes. 2. Perform positional release techniques and how they can be integrated into a rehabilitation program. 3. Discuss opportunities for emerging practice in dance, marching band, and manufacturing settings. 4. Understand the Medical Model as a method of sport medicine administration. 5. Apply inter-association guidelines for health and safety of college athlete to their setting. 6. Describe the changes occurring in Texas in relation to the state licensing board. 7. Discuss issues presented at a forum for AT educators designed to exchange ideas in relation to upcoming degree changes within the profession. 8. Apply assessment and corrective therapy techniques for scapular dysfunction and their integration into upper extremity rehabilitation. 9. Understand the meaning of mindfulness and its application for athletic trainers. 10. Discuss issues presented at State, SWATA, and NATA Forums. 11. Organize ideas surrounding aging parents and work/life balance. 12. Recommend appropriate sleep hygiene for competitive athletes. 13. Understand dynamic the nature of an emergency action plan and the importance of planning, action, and review. 14. Describe and implement effective concussion education techniques for athletes and parents. 15. Understand the unique concerns associated with concussion management in performing arts. 16. Apply appropriate techniques for quick removal of football helmet and facemask. 17. Apply evidence based practice techniques to the their choice of electrotherapy techniques in the clinical setting. 18. Apply basic cupping techniques for myofascial syndromes. 19. Understand and apply the Buffalo Protocol for return to aerobic activity following a concussion. 20. Perform vestibular and ocular motor screening for assessment and rehabilitation of concussed athletes. 21. Perform mobilization, muscle energy, and other therapeutic interventions for rib and thoracic conditions. 22. Apply techniques associated with maximization of motivation during rehabilitation programs. NOTE: Each objective is based on specific attendance at lectures and/or hands-on clinical application laboratories
