1 Rehab Insider Spring 2019 Volume 4 Issue 1 UNC Therapy Services Dance Rehabilitation and Wellness Program Our Dance Rehabilitation and Wellness program is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care and rehabilitation while meeting the unique needs of dancers. Our staff includes specialists with extensive background in dance, board certification in sports and orthopedic physical therapy with additional certifications in strength and conditioning and athletic training. Our therapists have extensive experience working with dancers of all levels from beginner to professional. 3 III Community Outreach The Department of Rehabilitation Therapy Services hosts and is a part of many community outreach projects throughout the year. This past February, staff members of the Rehab Service Line and guests, spent time at the SECU house to help provide meals for patients, their family members and caregivers from throughout North Carolina and beyond. In March, Rehab Service Line staff members and guests volunteered at Note in the Pocket, an organization that provides clothing to impoverished and homeless schoolchildren in Wake County with dignity and love. 4 IV UNC Feeding Team Conference On Friday, March 8, 2019, the UNC Feeding Team hosted a day-long symposium entitled Food, Function and Feeding: A Collaborative Approach to Pediatric Feeding Difficulties at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill, NC. The event was attended by over 250 participants representing a wide range of medical professionals from across the state of North Carolina and beyond with a vested interest in this very complex pediatric population. Our featured speakers covered an array of hot topics that highlighted the current state of the art in best practices for the care of pediatric feeding disorders. 5 V Clinical Education International Student Visit What a wonderful privilege it is to work with this amazing UNC Rehabilitation Therapies Team at UNC Hospitals! Our visiting scholars from China just finished their 2-week visit and were so impressed with the consistent level of expert care we provide to our patients in all of our settings each and every day. Thank you all for making this event such a HUGE success! Rehabilitation Therapies offer aquatic therapy at both UNC Wellness Centers in Chapel Hill and NW Cary. Students also visited PT, OT, SLP acute care at the Hillsborough Hospital. V

While visiting the UNC Center for Rehab Care on North Fordham Blvd in Chapel Hill, the students were introduced to the dry needling technique sometimes used by our certified physical therapists. 7 VII 2019 TBI Lecture Series Knowledge, Understanding, Caring In March, UNC Rehab Services hosted a TBI Lecture Series, focusing on continuum of care with TBI, and psychosocial health associated with patients suffering from traumatic brain injuries. This series covered information on Medical and Rehab Strategies for the Low Level TBI population, Bringing concussion back to basics, Supported Communication for People with Aphasia, and Family Support, Activity, and Education in TBI Recovery. 8 VIII The primary goal of the Rehabilitation Service Line at UNC Hospitals is to provide quality rehabilitation and therapy services in an efficient, cost-effective manner consistent with the hospital s mission statement and strategic initiatives. The Rehabilitation Service Line consists of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Rehabilitation Nursing, Recreational Therapy, Child Life, and Audiology as well as the 30-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit.
