Foundation course in Expressive & Creative Art Therapies
SMArT Studio for Movement Arts & Therapies Created in August 2008, the Studio for Movement Arts & Therapies (SMArT) brings together established artistes from a diversity of performing arts fields to share & create new experiences in movement. Founded by dancer/choreographer & dance therapist Brinda Jacob-Janvrin, the studio aims to create an original & innovative dance vocabulary, forging Indian & Western aesthetics, sensibilities & techniques in a new & expressive voice for contemporary dance theatre. SMArT also strives to raise awareness of the various forms of art therapies amongst the general public by organizing workshops & training programs in dance/movement therapy, drama therapy, drawings & visual art therapy, music therapy, play therapy, Feldenkrais etc.
SMArT Trust The Studio for Movement Arts and Therapies Trust was created to meet the increasing demands from the NGO & educational sector for high quality programs using the various art therapies for the greater empowerment of the individual. The Studio for Movement Arts & Therapies Trust is a registered charitable Trust, with the following vision. "To offer creatively alive spaces and practices to nurture and catalyse self inquiry, expression and integration for individuals and communities".
FECAT Foundation course in Expressive & Creative Art Therapies The need for trained expressive and creative arts therapists in the community led to the creation of the Foundation Course in Expressive and Creative Arts Therapies (FECAT). Conceptualized by Brinda Jacob-Janvrin, the course brings together leading creative arts therapists and trainers from India to design & develop a one year certificate training programme in creative arts therapies. The program is supervised by Kate T. Donahue (Ph.D. REAT, USA). FECAT aims at training participants to use different art media in therapeutic relationships with children, adolescents & adults in different settings. The participants, at the end of the training program will be able to use the creative arts with various client groups, for therapeutic goals. The FECAT programme will also initiate creative art therapy programs in various NGO s, hospitals & educational institutions as part of the internship program of the participants.
OUTLINE Title Foundation Course in Expressive & Creative Arts Therapies Institution Studio for Movement Arts & Therapies Trust Pre-requisites Adequate experience & engagement with the arts a must, especially over the last 12 months. Interest in Counselling/Therapy a must. Previous training/education is not a requirement, however it may be an advantage. All potential participants will have to undergo an interview. During the year, trainees will be required to intern at various NGOs, schools, hospitals etc which will be duly supervised by the trainers. The course content will also focus on guest lectures/workshops that will be interspersed over the 3 terms. These workshops will be largely experiential & considered relevant & important experiences like group process work, play therapy, Feldenkrais technique, improvisations, playback theatre etc. While these workshops are important experiences for the participant that will shape their way of working, it is not required for them to master these techniques.
