You will learn: History of scalp acupuncture ZSA treatment zones: locations, functions and indications Procedures, techniques and basic applications Precautions and contraindications Demonstrations and hands-on training Case Studies and Panel Presentation (3 CEU) We have invited several practitioners from around the world to present and discuss their cases. Topics include: Daoyin techniques and strategies for upper and lower limbs in chronic stroke Case studies - Multiple sclerosis, essential tremor Using ZSA in pre/post cardiac-thoracic surgery Integrating ZSA in trauma therapy ZSA for Stroke Rehabilitation (24 CEU) Identify different types of stroke Localize stroke lesions Treat Acute vs Chronic stroke Help a stroke patient regain functions: motor, sensory, balance, coordination, five senses, speech, memory, cognition, emotional balance and more. Case Review Video We will be presenting detailed cases from our June 2014 treatments of stroke patients at the Qingdao Hospital in China. For the first time each case includes the initial neurological assessment by Dr. Pei, a neurologist and head of the hospital, daily application of Zhu s Scalp Acupuncture and Daoyin Therapy and a Before & After comparison. 4 Speakers Professor Ming Qing Zhu, L.Ac., DOM (China) On November 24, 1987 Prof. Zhu demonstrated an innovative acupuncture technique, Zhu s Scalp Acupuncture, on a hemiplegic stroke patient at the First International Conference of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Beijing, where the patient stood up and ambulated without support. He has garnered global recognition as the top acupuncturist who has treated tens and thousands of stroke patients to achieve functional recovery. For more information, visit Joerg Fritschi, MD, FACP, MAS UZH from Switzerland started his medical career as an Internist in 1990 and is currently working in a medical group practice in Basel, Switzerland. His training in TCM started in 1992 and included studies in Beijing and Santa Cruz where he met Professor Zhu for the first time. He invited Prof. Zhu to Europe twice in the following years for seminars. Since 2002 he added psychotraumatology to his clinical skills including a master of advanced studies (2009, University of Zurich). He is combining internal medicine, TCM including scalp acupuncture and trauma therapy in a unique setting. Dr. Fritschi had held offices as the vice president of the Swiss Society of Internal Medicine, president of the UNION of Associations of Swiss Physicians for Complementary Medicine, and vice president of the Association of Swiss medical organizations for Acupuncture and TCM. James Lu, PT, DPT, LAc, OCS, MTC Dr. Lu has worked as the director of rehabilitation and senior physical therapist in a variety of settings. His primary experience has been in the realm of orthopedics, stroke rehabilitation and pain management. Through his study and experience, Dr. Lu found that by combining acupuncture with rehabilitation, patients get the most benefits. Since then, he has dedicated his career to this integrative treatment approach. In 2011, Dr. Lu initiated the first outpatient acupuncture program in Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) and has extended the acupuncture services to the pre- and post-operative inpatient care for patients with cardiac and thoracic surgeries. In 2014, this integrative approach was introduced to the Bayshore Acute Rehabilitation to facilitate the recovery of stroke, surgery and other illnesses. Moyee Siu, L.Ac., MTCM Moyee has studied and worked with Professor Zhu since She is the cofounder of Zhu s Neuro-Acupuncture Center and its non-profit foundation ZSAREF. Together they teach ZSA all over the world. Denis Grounin, R.Ac, R.TCMP registered Acupuncturist and a member of the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Canada, owner of Sunrise Community Acupuncture clinic in Ottawa, Canada. Mr. Grounin has 20 years of diversified clinical experience, including pain control and management, sports medicine, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, as well as nursing in intensive care, internal medicine and emergency department.
