2 Course Description The UCLA Symposium on Aortic Disease is a self-assessment CME one day course exploring the advancements in acute aortic disease detection and treatment. The symposium will also focus on natural history of aortic pathology, imaging, incidental finding of aortic pathology, new and historical treatments, and multidisciplinary approaches to management and care of patients with aortic disease. Course Objectives The objectives of the symposium are to educate physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals on recognition of acute and subacute aortic pathology, new alternatives, protocols and options for management including incidental finding of aortic disease. Significant advances and recent changes in management of aortic pathology will be presented and discussed. At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to: Identify the clinical presentation of acute aortic pathology. Assess patients presenting with chest and abdominal pain. Acquire and interpret appropriate imaging in patients presenting with suspected aortic pathology. Recognize the difference in prognosis and management between acute type A and type B aortic dissection. Recognize incidental aortic pathology and describe its proper management. Identify patients with traumatic aortic injury and describe its classification. Acquire knowledge on the application of endovascular technology to treat complex aortic pathology. Recognize and describe recent changes in the management of patients with aortic disease. Target Audience The target audience is primarily physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals in emergency medicine and in acute care centers, cardiologists, vascular surgeons, cardiac surgeons, nurse practitioners, and nurses.
