2 Today s clinicians are faced with many challenges and are seeking guidelines on how to care for their sports medicine population. This course will allow participants to gain knowledge regarding state-of-the-art management of sports medicine problems. The staff at Hospital for Special Surgery is uniquely positioned to provide this information to a local, regional and national audience by combining the expertise of our rehabilitation staff, surgeons and physicians. TARGET AUDIENCE This course is ideal for physical therapists, athletic trainers, coaches, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of athletes. welcome PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the end of this seminar, participants will have learned to: Describe and critique new advances in treating the athlete who has sustained an injury to a meniscus, to include conservative and surgical management Compare operative options for rotator cuff repair and their implications for postoperative rehabilitation Identify differential diagnosis and treatment options for athletes with hip disorders Recognize the most current approaches for managing acute sports injuries in the areas of cervical injuries in football, boxing injuries, heat illness and dislocations Define treatment strategies to better prepare the athlete for their return to sports such as golf, baseball, basketball and running Discuss an evidence-based approach to rehabilitation strategies for hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, foot & ankle, and lumbar spine disorders ACCREDITATION Hospital for Special Surgery is a New York State Education Department approved provider for physical therapy continuing education. Hospital for Special Surgery designates this activity for a maximum of 15.5 Contact Hours. National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA): Hospital for Special Surgery is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. and is approved to offer continuing education for certified athletic trainers. This symposium is accredited for up to 12.9 NATA credits.
