Abstract of the research program: The naturalization of the mind in recent decades has been a research area rapidly expanding, both in terms of development of scientific theories about the individual cognitive processes from the point of view of the consideration of the influence such theories have on the intuitive notion of human nature. In this perspective, the collaboration between philosophy, on the one hand, and neuroscience, psychology, computer science and anthropology, on the other hand, is one of the more advanced forms that cognitive science has recently taken. The philosophy of mind has thus moved its attention from the traditional relationship between the mind and the environment to the problem of the relationship of psychological processes with the same mind that processes them and puts them in place. This new research direction is shown by the new consciousness studies which have focused on those who investigate the functioning of perception, intentionality, and memory. The great mass of data available in these areas is now being used to try to provide an adequate explanation of how it performs in the elevation of the human mind that leads to the 2

3 emergence of cognitive abilities and self-consciousness. Most scholars investigating the nature of the mind recognized that the explanation of the phenomenon of consciousness is the hardest obstacle to overcome in order to reach the first goal. The naturalization of self-knowledge, especially of knowledge, represents the new frontier of a debate that is primarily concerned with the problem of the emergence of the mind from the physical substance of the nervous system. This issue is dedicated to the research project presented here. Areas of interest I studied history of philosophy, philosophy and history of science, in particular: epistemology, ethics, philosophy of language, philosophy of the mind, political philosophty and logic. I have taught courses on Introduction to Philosophy of science, Epistemology, Logic, Ethics, Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Language, History of Philosophy, Metaphysics, Methodology of the Social Sciences.
