Sunday afternoon will be informational for all levels of participants, but especially students and newcomers to the field. Instructional Level: suitable for Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced. Continuing Education Credits: This program, when attended in its entirety, is available for 12.0 continuing education credits. AAPB is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. AAPB maintains responsibility for this program and its content. BCIA approved CE credits to meet requirements for BCIA certification. NOTE! $25.00 fee for CE certificates. Overall Course Learning Objectives: This conference will offer in-depth information of integrated systems of treatment for a wide-range of issues and illnesses, as well as providing the scientific rationale for these applications. A bonus of the conference is a demonstration of bio/neurofeedback software by one of the premier biofeedback trainers in the country. Attention MFTs, LPCs, Social Workers, School Counselors and Other Mental Health Professionals: Many state licensing boards accept APA-approved CE credits for mental health professionals. 3 Speakers/ Session Descriptions / Learning Objectives Saturday and Sunday Morning Presenter: Erik Peper, PhD, BCB, is an international authority on biofeedback and Professor of Holistic Studies/Department of Health Education at San Francisco State University. He is president of the Biofeedback Foundation of Europe and past president of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback. Dr. Peper has a biofeedback practice at Biofeedback Health ( He is the author of numerous scientific articles and books, such as Make Health Happen, Fighting Cancer A Nontoxic Approach to Treatment and Biofeedback Mastery. Erik publishes a blog, the peper perspective-ideas on illness, health and well-being ( He is a recognized expert on holistic health, stress management and workplace health. His research interests focus on selfhealing strategies to optimize health, illness prevention, the effects of posture and learning self-mastery with biofeedback. Session Description: Optimize health and reverse illness by integrating grandmother therapy and basic evolutionary concepts within a self-regulation approach that includes postural, management, cognitive reframing, breathing, diet, movement, biological rhythm regulation, touch and biofeedback training. ( Grandmother Therapy is an umbrella term for implementing evolutionary common sense, such as having clients eat breakfast not containing sugar and simple carbohydrates, having regular sleep and so forth.) Through the use of case examples and experiential practice embedded within a stress management matrix, participants will learn to recognize and experience subtle dysfunctional illness promoting patterns such as those triggered by the startle response and defense reaction, breath holding, gasping, absence of pelvic floor movement and hyperventilation. Applications of this integrated approach have been demonstrated to reverse numerous illnesses such as text anxiety, panic attacks, chronic pain,vulvodynia, psychogenic epilepsy, POTs (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), CIN III (carcinoma in situ cervical dysplasia) and eczema. The workshop includes demonstrations, physiological monitoring and self-practice exercises. Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to 1. Describe the important role of diet and exercise to reduce anxiety and enhance learning. 2. Analyze clients breathing patterns that contribute to psychophysiological dysfunction. 3. Use abdominal and trapezius/scalene EMG to teach effortless breathing. 4. Utilize posture feedback to reduce pain and depression. Target Audience: Healthcare professionals and bio/neurofeedback practitioners. Sunday Afternoon Presenter: Harry Campbell was introduced to biofeedback in 1984 by Adam Crane at a career day at Ossining High School in Westchester County, NY. He worked with Adam in his biofeedback equipment and training company for over 20 years and then Adam sold him the company. He has provided biofeedback and neurofeedback for anxiety, headaches, pain, insomnia and ADHD in several practices. He served as a trainer and supervisor in the Yonkers Neurofeedback Project with Mary Jo Sabo. Harry has served two terms as president of the Northeast Regional Biofeedback Society and has trained and presented for many colleges, universities, VA and military facilities throughout the country. Session Description: Participants will learn how to use Biograph software for stress assessments, EEG baseline assessments and bio/neurofeedback training sessions. Instructions for starting sessions, adjusting scales, thresholds and feedback will be discussed. Learning Objectives: Participants will 1. Understand how to start and run a session. 2. Know how to adjust screen settings. 3. Understand how to review data. 4. Be able to prepare and print a report. Target Audience: People who own are or thinking of using Biograph Infinity biofeedback equipment. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left at the light to go south. 3. Follow Snowden River Parkway to the 2nd light and turn right on McGaw Road (landmark: Apple Ford). 4. Follow McGaw Road past the Gramophone store. Just before the light at the intersection of McGaw and Dobbin Roads, turn right into the Graduate Center parking lot.
