City of Albertslund DOLL ERRIN Brokerage Jakob Sidenius & Flemming Madsen
Photonics Enabled Health for the Elderly Citizens SC1-PM Personalised coaching for wellbeing and care of people as they age
Societal and demographic challenges Huge increase in elderly +85 by 2025 Huge increase in elderly with dementia by 2025
What our idea is Test of biological impactfull lighting with elderly citizens Showing evidence on physical and psychological bio-markers Test of integrated smart health systems comprising of IOT-sensor systems, telepresence and adaptive controls / userfaces Proof of technology concept Collection and use of data Dissemination and roll-out
What are we doing now? Lightel project Showing evidence for lighting technology s potential to stimulate circadian rhythm and thus increase quality of life
Lightel project who? 24 elderly with dementia or mobility issues in public care homes
Lightel project how? Individually adjusted LED lighting in 24 homes Increased blue spectral light in the daytime, increased red spectral light in the evening and night time
Lightel testing Medical data (e.g. blood samples) Sensorbased data (e.g. mobility) Anthropological data (e.g. user acceptance) Lighting Design Time -6-4 weeks Group Light A calibration Group Light B calibration Group Light C calibration Group Light D calibration Group Light E calibration Test panel X Test panel Y BaseStudy 1 line weeks weeks weeks weeks Base- InterWash line vention out Base- Inter Wash line -vention out Base- InterWash line vention out Base- InterWash line vention out Base- line Continuously Every second week life event driven Study weeks Intervention Intervention weeks Intervention Intervention Intervention Intervention Analysis weeks Wash out weeks weeks Intervention Wash out Wash out Intervention Wash out + effect of intervention - effect of intervention New study cycle
Lightel individual impacts Improved circadian rhythm Improved sleep pattern Reduced restlessness and night wandering Fewer incidents of depression and delirium
Lightel project goal Evidence that biological impactful lighting can improve health and quality of life for the elderly Test and development of a sensorbased and scalable lighting solution
What is our proposal? Development and test of photonics based ecosystem with IOT sensors & wearables; realtime data analytics; individually adjusted biological impactful lighting; telepresence & telemonitoring with GP s, hospitals and municipal health services possible connection to various e-health solutions
The virtual coach Monitoring of realtime data responding to elderly conditions: e.g. Circadian rhythm Sleep patterns / medicine use Behaviour, mobility & function Dehydratio Inflammation-immune defence) Collection of data in a simple user interface with warnings or gamification to focus on certain conditions, empowering the staff and citizens to respond and alter
Target groups Elderly living in public care homes Frail but without cognitive impairments Dementia (staff and relatives) Elderly living in own homes Staff in elderly homes and home nursery services
Impact on target groups Improve health and life quality in the growing elderly population Compensate and help general age conditions Increase self-dependency and thus reducing the need for public care service Help the elderly stay in their own homes avoiding hospitalization and public care homes Empowering the elderly and the staff by smart photonics
Who are we looking for? Municipalities (staff, elderly homes & home services) Universities (technical and photonics research + human & socio-economic research) Medical- clinical research Companies with parts of systems (lighting, ICT, IoT, sensors, wearables etc)
Thank you!
